Worst car I've owned?

In all honesty it sounds like they are messing you around until the car runs out of warranty...

DEMAND a new manifold to be fitted,if they dont like that idea then say you will have one fitted elsewhere and take them to small claims court for the money..


If they cant see the manifold is the fault,they are blind!!
 
There is somebody on here who has had three manifolds so replacing doesnt men the problem ill be fixed.
 
The thing is,if the manifold has a problem it needs to be REPLACED...It irrelevant if it fixes the problem to be honest.

But to get to the bottom of the problem,you need to start on a level playing field and that starts with replacing things that are obviously defective.

Once everything you can see looks correct,then you can start a trail of diagnosis that will repair the car..

Russel,they are mugging you off fella.... Whats the point of warranting the work when its persistantly failing ? Its cheaper for them to throw a fivers worth of welding products at the manifold and send you off again..

Like i said initially,if you cannot X ray the manifold to ascertain integrity of weld and manifold after repair it isnt worth doing...
 
Im dont know to be honest....

Perhaps a BMW parts department could tell you if the modified them in production ?
 
I understand that the later manifolds were modified yes... My 2006 2.0i had a hairline crack at 2 yrs old & was replaced under wty, was fine after that...

Good luck mate, hope all gets resolved & you see the decent car shine from under the crap you've dealt with do far :)

Update.

The car has had the manifold put back on this morning, the garage took it out for a test drive and guess what......it broke down, glad it happened to them though, apparently now the ABS light came up as well as limp mode. the garage say it is having a new ABS control unit at a cost of £750 to them, they expressed that if this does not fix it then they will give me my modey back.

Would this send the car into limp mode?

they are totally different systems , one is emissions the other the braking system ??

There is as much chance that changing the ABS control will fix your Emissions fault as changing the roof motor would :rofl:

seriously though..sorry for your troubles..at least you'll get your money back, go off and buy another Z4 :D
 
Although i agree with the above,the engine management system can bring on the ABS/TC light on many cars including BMW's but its generally the air mass meter that causes the fault.

I wonder what is wrong with the controller? The common issue being the high pressure sensor thats part of the controller unit. BUT BMW do sell repair kits for them,so a full new unit is not required.

It really sounds like they are playing around with your car.. BMW's can be a bit tricky to repair sometimes,especially if you dont have the correct kit to do it but it does sounds like they are a bit clueless..
I would just get my money back off them i think..
 
Hi Russell

Check your consumer rights, I think you have 6 months from the purchase date of the car to return it if there has been mitigating faults the weren't rectified. Check with citizens advice bureau (that is if you are UK based).
 
Thanks guys, latest update is he parts that are apparently needed wont be here until Tuesday, looks like its going to be a loooong weekend.... :headbang:
 
Well in the end the garage have kindly took the car back after it had been in the main dealer for three days and they could not find a problem, apparently they cannot diagnose the problem unless it goes into limp mode and they can instantly plug the diagnostics in, I was not accepting the car back knowing I could not drive any distances in it.
Hopefully next week the garage will have a nice silver 3.0 with 32k on the clock all ready for me to pick up as the replacement I wanted, lets hope its better than the 2.0!
 
Good news re the money back Russell. I hope the 3.0l does the trick. I had one for nearly 5 years and loved it and it was also mechanically very reliable too.
 
Shame, my Z is my second car, but I am so in love with it. Every time :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: I get in it. It gives me a smile, it scares me, but it also catches me when I fall.....
 
Have to say I can totally sympathise and am now at my wit's end with my car after 3 fairly major electrical failures in under 2000 miles of use.

- First the electric steering column went, completely without warning (none of the "sticky steering" some people describe). Cost a fortune to replace.
- Then a DSC/ABS sensor failed during an MOT leaving me with the yellow handbrake and DSC lights on. I have got hold of a sensor from a breakers so hopefully this will be fixed soon.
- And now the airbag system has gone wrong - the left side satellite failed and has been replaced but there's still a phantom "under voltage" error that no-one can get to the bottom of.

I'm booked in to another specialist for next week (BMSport in SE London which I've heard good things about), but the experience has really been a far cry from my last car (a Mazda RX8) which never missed a beat in the 5 years I had it.

I'm going to hang onto the car over the summer (if it ever arrives) and then I'm getting shot of it as I've totally lost faith in it - 65,000 miles, full BMW service history and immaculately kept by the former owner but still all of these problems and who knows what next :(
