That hits the nail on the head..... I went to Uni in Dundee, and worked there for 5 years. Sometimes I couldnt make out what was being said.

'Ga-ridge' most certainly is not correct, nor is 'grassss', 'pa-th' or 'ba-th'!
'Ga-rarrge', 'graarse', 'paaarth' and 'baaarth' are the only acceptable pronunciations :poke:

Oh the delights of the English language, the worst case is Lieutenant, I mean do you see an F in there :D

I was born in Kent, lived in Cheshire for 12 years and have lived in Yorkshire for the last 20, so I can be forgiven for my idiosyncrasy, I had a barth this morning, but I like to shop in Bath :wink:

However according to the Oxford English Dictionary the correct pronunciation is barth, unless your American and then it is bath
 
The Norfolk accent isn't great but the Norwich accent in particular really gets on my tits. When I moved up here from Essex I spent a lot of time having to explain that I wasn't actually from London and was consequently not a cockney.
 
Nowadays the dictionary won't commit to one pronunciation for many words, instead citing that many pronunciations being acceptable :headbang:

Sadly when you hear someone with a really strong Norfolk/Norwich accent they just sound thick :thumbsdown:

Well I am glad to see my Accent has not been mentioned. Even though I am a Geordie I hate to hear anybody from the North East on TV I think our accent is really harsh. :o

I love the Geordie accent, I live in Teesside and can't stand the watered down Smoggie accent (I'm from t'yorkshire). But I think it's hilarious when anyone further south than Leeds can't tell the difference between Smoggies, Mackems and Geordies and just call us all Geordies!!

The queen says graarse so its correct :poke:

Its all the Northern people who cant speak proper queens english and pronounce everything the american way. Soon they will pronounce Z4 as Zee four and not Zed four!!
