Worn steering rack?

My car's just been into BM for amongst other things noisy steering

Turns out they are going to replace the steering rack

Car has got 60K on it

Is this unusual?

When I was searching for my car, I notice a couple of cars I saw had replacement steering rack in their service histories. These were cars before 2012 since I was searching for the 30i. Maybe more cars were affected than what BMW let on?

Perhaps after 10 years have elapsed bmw think they’ve got away with it?

Rob I pondered but for example mine was an August 2012 car registered May 2013

I'm not sure they know exactly what's causing the grinding noise but sounds like they've ordered some parts inc. a rack just in case

Mine is a 63 plate if that matters
