Hi all,
Right I've posted previously before about the replacement roof and PDC control buttons and made a video on how to fit them.
The biggest criticism I've seen is how expensive they can be for just a little plastic button, now I don't dispel this notion and, in fact, quite rightly agree with it as I've just paid £34 for two to be shipped to me from Aliexpress. But considering that the replacement options are quite limited, then this is a fair price to pay.
Your options are as follows. In order of expense, most costly first....
A new replacement full switch - From £285 depending on spec.
A used good example - From about £150, really depending on condition, can be a lot more.
The replacement button top - From £14.40.
A transfer sheet - About £8.
So the options are obvious in what they are, except for the last one, the transfer sheet. This is a sheet that you put in warm water and the slide onto the button. It is then recommended to put a layer of varnish over the top to seal it in and protect it.
Now when these first came out, prior to the replacement buttons, I ordered a set from the supplier here in the UK, from his eBay page. Although I'd bought a set I never got around to fitting them, because I could see there being issues, but in fairness, at the time, it was the cheapest option.
Now I've mentioned these before and a few have said they have them and like them. Well attached is a photo of a switch I've just acquired (for a customer), and someone has used a set of these transfers. Now to be perfectly honest here, this is an absolute abortion, what a hideous mess. The transfers aren't straight first of all, and where it's then had a coat of varnish it just looks bad. The transfer has now broken through and cracked up and can be seen bubbling as well, all in it's just not good. So this one will now have these two buttons removed and replaced by the ones I have coming. The only place these old buttons are now going will be in the bin.
As for the longevity of these ones from Aliexpress, well mine I have are still in perfect condition over three years later with no sign of deteriorations what so ever!
