Workshop manual or similar?? Air Conditioning

So I next on the list is the A/C to fix.

I'm going to get Kwik Fit to test the system to find out where the leak is.

But I have yet to find any sort of manual that can help me dismantle the A/C system if I can find the leak.

Anyone have any idea where I can find these details? Will the E46 Haynes Manual do?
 
Anyone got recommendations of a good Indy in Surrey to have a look at this?

Anything else mechanical, with instructions is fine for me, but with limited instructions and time, I fear this could go wrong.
 
I would recommend you call Aircon Direct - 01474 832941 or 01634 420320 - http://www.ac4cars.co.uk/ Tell them Rover Matt who currently has a BMW Z4M recommended you call them. :D

I have used this company for 15+ years on many many cars and they are absolutely excellent and very reasonable. They come out to you.

Forget Kwik-Fit and the dealers, these guys are specialists in car air conditioning systems. They know all the tricks, weak points in various systems and have all the specialist gear, etc.

Car air conditioning is a specialist area and you need specialist knowledge and experience to be good at it. Kwik fit can gas a system up but if it is a leaking system, it will work for a while and then stop when it has lost it's gas again. Worse, they may gas up a leaking system which is low on refrigeration oil and on a hot day, your AC compressor will cease up and spit metal fragments all around the other delicate AC system components.

They may find a leak and if you want to change the faulty component yourself, they can help you source a replacement at preferential rates through their trade contacts, give you advice and go away so you can fit the component and then come back to test and gas it all up. Or they can do the lot for you, your call, they will work with you and help you get it sorted. :thumbsup:

Car booked in for a preliminary look with Aircon Direct. Unfortunately they don't cover my area any more, but it's not too far away for me to get to them.

Cheers for the recommendation, it's always to go off one, rather than go in blind.

I am sure they will help you get it sorted and you will learn a fair bit at the same time. They are good people. :thumbsup:

Let us know how you get on. I am interested to see what the issue is.

Myself and my mates have had a fair few cars with AC issues over the years which they have helped us to resolve so I have learnt a lot about car AC through all this experience. :D
 
It's definitely a leak in the system somewhere, I'm hoping it's not the compressor seals. I can just about step to a new condenser at the moment.
 
In my experience I would say it is unlikely to be compressor seals and more likely to be the condenser. Can you see any patches on it anywhere which look oily? Usually a tell tale sign where the leak is as some of the refrigeration oil comes out with the gas.

They will be able to help you source a new condensor if it comes to that.

Best hope would be a knackered schrader valve or dry O ring on a pipe joint :)
