Workshop manual online? download?

Hey guys. I would like to start becoming more familiar with the guts of my Z4. Its a 2012 35i and I cannot seem to find a comprehensive workshop manual that might be available as download or an on-line version. I am willing to pay for it, but would prefer a downloadable version so I can linger over aspects of the beast I might be too obtuse to understand at first read. Can anyone tell me where to go to find this?, or if it is even available?

Thanks - in advance!
Rick

EBay.com USA site should have one for 15 dollars. Be aware its 5500 pages with no index!

I thought EBay would have it too - but no joy. Plenty of offerings for everything prior to 2009, but nothing on the E89 at all.....I'll keep watching for it though....Thanks!

You need a copy of BMW TIS. Plenty on eBay for little money.

Yeah...http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/....had about every BMW made - BUT NO E89!!! I have been all over EBay too, and they have Z4 TIS for 2009 - 2011, but not for a 2012 E89.....(WTF???)

This is a very good start.

I have it on my smart phone as well

Also if you haven"t seen this. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/technology_guide/start.html

I have a proper BMW version of the owners manual (not the workshop manual) in adobe format [pdf] that I could send you as an attachment if you let me know your email address.

extaz, both your links are helpful! The insights section of the BMW site is a good primer, and the docslide E89 download has a wealth of info as well - thanks very much. DLH, you sir, are my new hero! I have PM'd you my email and truly appreciate the kindness of your help!

I must say, this board has been a delight to find - great bunch of folks here!

Copy sent as a pdf - hope it's what you are looking for!

You all have been great, and my Z4 library is adding titles nicely. I am still in search of the Holy Grail but I feel more like Monty Python than Galahad or Perceval: The lengthy BMW Workshop manual for the 2012 E89 35i eludes me still. I am beginning to ascribe legendary status to the beast and wonder if it doesn't really exist, or can only be found in the presence of Unicorns, but I press on, undaunted. It is an obvious missing file on Ebay where titles all around this model year can be found readily, and most other common sources seem equally unavailable. I am now determined to own a copy and money, effort, even blood remain no object to me! (Currently I am chasing down a rumor that the last copy of the tome is hidden with the crated "Amber Room" on a boxcar buried by the Nazi's in some obscure location in Poland as the Thrid Reich fell!)

In time, It WILL be MINE!

Anyone who successfully locates 'my precious' will gain immortality and honor among Zed owners everywhere, as well as a friend for life here in the Colonies...

The workshop system used by BMW franchised dealers is called ISID. The workshop manual is called ISTA. It is one of a suite of applications that ordinarily requires specialist comms equipment (OBD2 & MOST) to connect to your E89, although for browsing the manuals, your VIN is sufficient... So, if you know what a VM (Virtual Machine) is, is it fairly easy to get hold of the ISTA VM, fire it up and away you go.

It provides guided troubleshooting, service data and just about everything else you could imagine.

Whoa! That puts a very different light on this subject! Thank you MUCH for this info. I have no conception of what your last two sentences mean, but fortunately, I have a son who speaks "Geek" with the best of them, so he doesn't know it yet, but he has a new project!

Seriously, Thank You!

I had my son take a look at this thread to advise me on possibly setting up a VM and chasing this rabbit.......his advice included the following two phrases:
"Dad, this is way, WAY, beyond your ability and understanding.", and,
"You do not own the requisite hardware to make this work."
To which I responded,
"Yeah, but YOU do, right?"
"Yeah, but I have three kids under 3 years old, remember?"
"Yeah, but I have a Z4 you get to drive every now and again, and MIGHT want to inherit someday. right?"
"Yeah, but....but........OK, I'll see what I can do. (Sigh)"
"Love you son."
"Love you dad."

We will see.....
