Working through the niggles

Just a thread to document the work on the car and share any information that will hopefully help people along the way.

The car runs well ,threw some codes when I picked it up but they've not come back since!!!
I think it had been pootling around a village on supermarket fuel for a while and me opening her up on the motorway probably confused the ecu settings etc .
Things to do
Roof mouldy - only light stains but annoying
LH headlight condensation
Both headlight require restoration
Water in car and boot
Wheels need refurbishment and centre caps
Full service required
New tyres all round
Front end has had paint , can't work out if it's the bonnet and bumper thats been painted or both wings ? Either way they don't match

Trying not to get carried away with the car as I just want to drive it really and not worry too much about it.... but I'm sure I'll do too much as usual :D

Ok update
Roof
Cleaned with everything I can find ! Spent a fortune on product but still lightly stained.
I'm on the Milton's sterilisation tablets now and after 2 go's its improving

Headlight condensation
Took the rear cover off today, leaking water in from the top in the middle, dried it out reversed the seal and smeared with vaseline let's hope it works.

Headlight restoration
Polished and buffed both lights ,came up ok but will definitely need to be wet sanded etc to get a perfect finish.

Centre caps replaced looks much better even though wheels are a bit scabby.
Tyres are shocking and well sketchy in the wet !!!
Recommendations please - cheaper the better but obvious not Chinese ditchfinders

Water in car
Roof drains were blocked top and bottom, took ages to clear all the crap out of the holes at the top kept clogging up as I poured water in...I was unable to fully rod the drains through is there something in there like a flap valve or something? Couldn't get anything to go all the way through, rodded up from the bottom and down from the top but no joy.
Also found clips and tape etc in the buckets both sides probably left over from roof motor relocation which weren't helping matters.
Drains now run clear so that's a bonus .... boot looks OK from 3rd brake light and the screws above the rear light so maybe the roof drains were filling up and spilling into the boot?
Water in passenger footwell, pretty sure its the door membrane? But it seems to collect on top the seal in the groove and then run in when the door is opened.

New fault
Bonnet won't latch after opening, takes some serious slamming to close properly!!!
Add it to the list
Love the car and starting to enjoy driving it still haven't had the roof down due to it raining every day since it arrived 🙃

Some pictures from the other day as I know we all like pictures...

Kumhos are reasonably priced mid-range tyres but places like Black Circles n Costco often have good deals on the premium stuff. On the bonnet latch, does it just need good dollops of grease??

That's a good list, but it's always hard to know when to stop!

Those 107 wheels look great so surely deserve a refurb.

FWIW I put a set of Kumho Ecstas on my Z4 in 2021 and have been really pleased with them. And they cost just under £400 for a set of 4 delivered. :)

First time driving with the roof down today !!
Cold but good with heated seats on and heater on full..
Dog does not like the sound generator mod as the noise comes straight in the footwell where he's sitting!!!
New fault
Sticking drivers door handle, using my knee to apply pressure prior to opening at the moment, seems to be working..another top tip from here
Hit a large bump and the red roof light started flashing, hit another one and it stopped!!!
Bonus like a car that fixes itself

New fault
Alarm keeps going off
When I bought it the bonnet sensor was unplugged, I didn't know why so just plugged it back in, its been fine ever since but last night started playing up!
This car is very consistent with all the usual z4 faults so I don't feel left out

Pretty frozen this morning, odd shapes in the roof

I had problems with this when I first got mine. For some reason a new battery and keeping that topped up once a month with a trickle charger seemed to solve it. Why this works is a mystery!

Headlight condensation seems to be cured!
Alarm - after reading the forum I bent the bracket upwards and this seems to have fixed it , no issues since.
Cabin filter replaced was absolutely minging
Air filter replaced
Oil change this week hopefully when my ramps arrive, this car is seriously low and I'm struggling to get the jack underneath let alone anything else.

Love that place, we go there at the and of summer every year!
Yes there's some lovely spots along that coast, we live here and don't explore enough...
Well spotted on the location

A couple of questions if anyone has any input

1) DISA Valve , what's the consensus? Buy new or do the mod with the threaded bolt etc
I've checked it and its fine at the moment no play etc

2)Headlight washers should the fuse be pulled? Do they definitely all fail/ disappear eventually?
Mine work fine so far

3) Door handle sticking, what's the best fix for this? Lots of opinions and chat but no definite answer on what the best option is with regards to new cables or handle assembly or packing out with washers!

Any info greatly appreciated
