Working From Home

It’s come at a bad time personally, just in the process of starting again after a few years being off my feet. However I’ll get stuck into the humongous list of jobs that need doing on the house over the next 6 months and see what happens then but in reality I think it’s going to be at least this time next year before we get some sense of normality back....

I'm just so glad I took early retirement and get my work-place pensions, have no health issues and am not old enough to be in a high-risk category.

But it's pretty grim right now so I just wish everyone all the best.

That's us now working from home until told otherwise.

Started my 12 weeks minimum of working at home today. Fall into two “at risk” categories so 2 minute discussion with manager at 8 o’clock this morning and that was it done. No returning to the office for anything until further notice.

First job, smart top ordered tonight. I can see a lot of my isolation either being in the Z4 or doing stuff to it - between checking emails and appearing busy

I’m an academic. I work from home a few days a week anyway - lectures permitting. We now have no students and May/June exams will be replaced with some other form of assessment - still trying to figure out what! As far as I can tell the students will not be in for the rest of the academic year ... the uni is open but no need to be there if I can do what I do at home (and as 90% of my time feels like it’s spent chasing elusive research funding - I can do that from anywhere!)

I’m a dog walker and three of my customers cancelled yesterday as two are self isolating (the kids both have coughs).
The others office has closed and she’s working from home.
I only have done walk today now and two home visits this week.
Ok, I’m lucky enough that I work part time and my partners income won’t be affected as they it’s always been a working from home role. But this will definitely have an effect on my wages and there’s no definitive comment as to whether I should be going into peoples homes still.

I work at Alexandra Palace as a Mechanical Engineer.
Whole place is closed down with staff who can, working from home and others just off work until when?.
No events/concerts/Ice Skating etc until at least May.
Only people left in the building are Security and our small Facilities team. Going to catch up on Engineering Works that can't normally be undertaken during normal working hours.
Even all our car parks have been closed off.
Sad times.

One of my engineers mates works in a group of 3 hotels in the soho area of London. They have decided to shut all 3 hotels and had a deliver of hundreds of sheets of ply and the last few days have been spent nailing up windows and doors, to prevent issues of looters attacking the places while they are shut down. Sad state of affairs.
I am now trying desperately to have all my engineers working at least 30 hrs a week currently and keep some wages in their pockets , until we get completely shut down. We, as air conditioning engineers do have data centres and client comms rooms, which without air conditioning would keel over and finish the companies who are using them ( like all the home workers) so, we hope we have access for the future weeks in keeping these running and engineers with some monies. For me, now being home based , by probably Tuesday next week, now move from salary to hourly paid and suspect I will take home less than the engineers at the moment and have the stress to try and keep them working as long as possible.
We had to advise our delivery driver , who is at risk, he has to isolate for 12 weeks and be on SSP , as of today. He has been this week speaking to debtors and most seem pretty amicable with the situation and wont cut anything off, from electric to gas to telephones, except West Berkshire council, who said they would take 20 quid off his £150 council tax but he has to pay the rest, even if he knows he doesnt have this money. I hope the government default the next 2 months payments to put them into Feb and March 'free months' for next year, at a minimum.

I was going to move to home working this summer anyway. So I have just started a bit earlier than expected. Luckily I had got hold of new monitors, laptop and docking station just before the world ran out of IT supplies.
Now I just need to remember to go home at 5pm

So first day working from home today. After two calls to the help desk I managed to connect to the company secure network. Alas I can not get into my databases yet though. Some frustrating days ahead. I really don't want to be going back in. I was last to leave the office as it was. We still have a reduced but still large production team on site. But the entire technical and product support teams are now wfh.

Been working from Home since Monday. We did a Covid-19 evacuation last week to test that servers copuld cope with 3000 people
working remotely. Then Monday it was confirmed we "must" work from home. AT 1200 Hrs i was told i had to log out so the Americans could
log in. It was discovered we had 900 licences for 3000 people.

I am an International Freight Forwarder, so responsible for moving freight and keeping supermarkets stocked etc.

I discovered junior sales people logging in, i made a load of noise as i am now deemed a "Key worker". I now have a Licence for 24/7

Our internal communications and IT is amazing, impresses even me.

We have: A live Internal messaging system. Microsoft teams. Whatsapp groups.

Yesturday we set up a "Zoom" video conferance for our UK Operations group, it was hilarious The next oneone will be held in fancy dress :lol:
One girl was on a balcony in Bratislava basking in 20 DC sunshine guzzling Gin & Tonics.

Survived the first week, i'm sure the novelty will soon wear off.
