Ha! Our business manager cannot even resolve my issue with remote log in, let alone the other 62 employees waiting to dee how I get on!
I think if I were sent home I would be spending plenty of time in the Z on the quiet back roads. That's pretty isolated and much better for my sanity. I wonder how long it will be before we are pulled over for that, even though it seems a pretty safe place to be.
We were told at 9am Monday morning that we should 'consider' working from home unless it was necessary to be in the office. Not much notice for those of us who leave home at 5am to start the Mon-Thur commute.
Luckily I was at home this Monday after having a long weekend for my birthday, and decided to check my email.
Then this morning the advice was changed from 'consider' to 'recommend' - and the office now has only skeleton staff in place for security/EHS/facilities and only 1 floor out of 12 will be open for use. Food outlets will be reduced from 5 to 1 too.
I'm on few days holiday at the moment. It looks like both my daughter and I will be working from home in the next few days. Mrs G works in a Nursing home, so will be at work unless she becomes I'll. They have already sent several staff home, who have been abroad or who have a cough. Most, if not all of those will be perfectly well, which is already putting a strain on the shift patterns.
Me too... fortunately our firm is well set up for remote working although we have never sent all 100 of us home at once. Not sure I can take 4 weeks (or longer - I'll definitely run out of loo roll in that time) of it though...
I had to lay off my staff of 5 over here in NL. Fortunately (for me only) theyre flexworkers. I already had 3 pending contracts postponed and 2 of 5 others have been frozen. I suspect it might be bad news further down the line, hence I couldn't justify the opex of keeping them sitting around doing nothing.
I'll be taking on the existing workload myself for the forseeable future but who knows whats gonna happen...
I work for a Local Authority and we've all been working from home on alternate days for a couple of years now so well set up with it, so for me I work 2 days a week at home although I didn't want 2 days in succession. We haven't been told to increase home working as yet but expecting we will be in the next day or so for non essential services. Not looking forward to it but it is what it is to stay safe. Its the isolation I find difficult being stuck at home but there you go. Can't complain when you see potentially 000s of jobs and businesses being lost.
Looks like I am starting this next week. Being set up with communication and company access to systems first. Ironically we are having a new phone system , previously booked , being fitted Monday, which saves us missing any calls etc. This will include unpaid time off too, but could finish us, like many others.
With the wife working in the dental trade, who is struggling for face masks etc , means they may shut shop too and no wages coming in.
Not bringing a downer to this, but I do wonder if the western world are responsible with greed from Chinese factories working to manufacture goods for minimal money , to increase profits and pay workers a pittance, enough for them to eat rats etc . Even the Mintex discs I bought recently had made in China printed on the side............Lucky I got a refund today , so wont be on the car anyway as they dont fit
I’m a community psychiatric nurse and sent home today for my own protection (diabetes and classed as high risk group). Christ knows what my patients are going to do without support!
I’m a photocopier engineer, Epos engineer and office furniture installer, I help out with stationery too. We use disposable gloves and hand gel while onsite.
I work for myself and started a customers bathroom yesterday so working from home is something I can't do. Luckily this customer has moved out to her daughters so only contact I have is with my suppliers fetching materials.
We were prepared for a long stay at home anyway since my wife is 39 wks pregnant. So far it’s not been much different from what we’d planned - working from home (fine for my job), local walks, grocery deliveries etc - but a little nervous about the developing situation in the hospital and also sad that close family will not able to visit us as much as we’d hoped over the next few weeks and months. Because of my heart condition, we’re both technically in the “at risk” bracket who might have enforced isolation soon.
Working at home is the norm for me now as I took early retirement a couple of years ago. My wife however works at a very popular butchers locally & has never seen it so busy. Queuing down the street today apparently, buying up everything to store in the freezer .
