Ironically my work-built and maintained PC works just fine... My home one is riddled with issues. But they both have W7 and Office 2010. Used to be the other way round once upon a time. Strange.

Actually Bill Gates is a Mac Fan Boy.... :P

There was good business reasons for Microsoft to bailout Apple. This assured Microsoft of a weak competitor and it also shielded them from antitrust complaints.
 
I use both. Using Microsoft Office on the Mac is an absolute joke and very, very painful so I use my Windows machines for proper word processing / spreadsheets etc.

Obviously, as I use .Net, that is developed on the Windows machines as well.

However, the graphical design stuff I use the Mac for as that just works very well.

Business = Windows in my world, play = Mac ...
 
Problem with a Mac is you can't really do that much unless it's with mainstream gear.

Ie, try run a BDM on a Mac OSX to flash your Z4 ECU :D

iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, iMac and a Dell Windows 7 laptop. Rarely use the laptop to be honest! I can start the mac and laptop the same time, check emails and respond and shut down the Mac while windows is still booting and configuring updates! :P

I wouldn't put a Windows disk anywhere near my iMac!! :wink:

By day I'm a system administrator for a Windows based network !! :wink:
 
In my industry macs are the only way forward and are universally used. I know windows 7 is better than previous generations but just painful to use in comparison to OSX, lost far too much work on pcs. Never had a mac crash and ive used them for the past 7 years, I find the mac hardware very stable and seen the test of time. Never replaced anything on them apart from HDDs and upgrades. My Mac Pro 2.8ghz 8 core Xeon with 10gbs ram is a monster! Crunches through everything and anything very quickly. Will convert a 12gb 1080 .mkv in less than 40 minutes, not just that but most of my 3D programs dont even slow on this bad boy what ever you throw at it. 3D rendering is usually a good test on these things and I am very happy with it.

Although I am very unhappy with Apple as they have reduced there support to their professional users and are going further and further down then consumer road, but it makes the most money so I suppose they will continue... they haven't released a new Mac Pro since July 27th 2010 which in computer times is mental. I am ready for a new one too... but there is no point in spending £4k+ on a machine that is running 2 year old hardware.

Bit of a mac freak, I have - Mac Pro with 2x 23" cinema displays, 2x iMac, Powermac, Macbook pro, 2x Apple tvs, iPhone 3, 3gs & 4, 3x iPod Classics, 3x iPod Nanos, iPod Shuffle.. mad man haha! But all of it works flawlessly and I cant find fault.

The only other problem I have like all other Apple nuts, I wish they produced a decent desktop alternative to the Mac Pro. iMacs are ok but date very quickly and you cant readily swap HDDs without getting dust in the monitor and loosing your warranty, they use notebook chips and have awful glossy screens which (great for films and media) for print is a HUGE pain in the ass, I calibrate all of my stuff but the glare drives me insane too with the incandescent light in the office. Same with the Mac Mini it just isn't a worthy desktop IMHO. Then there is the Mac Pro which is great but at a decent spec is 2-3x more expensive than all the other alternatives and are overkill for 90% of people.

I dont know how many of you have read Steve Jobs Autobiography but he was taught early on in his career to make few product and make them well... Customer satisfaction is paramount and simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

The more I read that book the more I dislike the man.
 
i have a mac and windows. most of the time u use the pc as apple make me feel like an idiot. dont get me wrong i love my mac as a machine but use it mostly for reports etc. windows just lets you do more without the limitations
 
I switched to Apple around 10 years ago and now get really bored with the whole "tied in experience" idea. It's only a sodding operating system and unless you run really esoteric programs, or are used to stealing them, then your windows files will work fine. I use Keynote and Numbers which will understand word and excel files fine and just "save as" or "export" as window compatible files if that is what's required.

There's also a belief that .aac files from iTunes are somehow incompatible or full of drm. They're not. it stands for "advanced audio codec" not "apple audio codec" and they're better than mp3's.

It's only a tool people and it will not make you cool or get you laid. Despite spending hours in Starbucks pretending otherwise. I know, I've seen you there and I've been there as well.

5! .. ?? I have one in the cupboard with a wonky power supply (the first Imac , repaired twice) , a 27" on my desk and a macbook, an IPad and a flock of iPods. I can only say I have 4 functional computing devices , drat! You win, but I did start with the original "beige box" but it's gone now, :(

I believe that if you have any form of artistic blood you will eventually have a Mac , and probably a classic two seater type car......weird eh?

It's exactly the opposite..... :rofl: If you are hiding in the den playing with a computer the odds of getting laid or even meeting a member of the opposite sex are infinitesimally small. The Zed may help a bit but please ...get rid of the "Brains Benton" glasses, the pocket protector and the bow tie....

With regard to Apple, they are great products and you have to respect what Jobs created in the Apple brand, but as many above have said, different tools suit different jobs. I still want what Alan has though :thumbsup:

Agreed.

It's a testament to the maturity and level-headedness of Z4 aficionados that this thread hasn't devolved into a bloody flame war, which is what usually happens when the MS camp gets pitted against the Apple camp.

Very impressive. :thumbsup:
