I would welcome the death penalty in the UK...

Could be an idea to keep them on 'death row' for 5 years first to give them a chance of appeal etc...

The big issue is for me, and as we can see in the USA... The death penalty doesn't stop crime or stop these sick f***ers doing what they do.

The whole point of our system is that criminals can be 'fixed'... Does it work though??

I don't believe that people like this can be fixed. And tbh I don't think any money should be wasted on trying.

I'm one of those not opposed to the death penalty - however (in some cases, but not this one) the issue that makes me hesitate is that of ensuring the person convicted and sentenced is the guilty party. With regard to loss of limbs and stoning to death, personally I think it's unnecessarily barbaric, but then I am judging those cultures that practice their punishments in that manner by western standards, which I'm aware is not a great place to start.

yes i agree, it has to be proved beyond any doubt. for example an armed gun man going in and killing 20 people etc. likewise, it is barbaric but then again no doubt the crime is just as barbaric too for example gang rape. well as we know we are too soft here in the west and maybe adopting some of these punishments would leave the surviving victims and their families with some sense of justice

Agree with what you say, and I’m also not opposed to the death penalty per se, providing that we have the right person and the evidence is beyond all reasonable doubt.

I am opposed to the idea of carrying out ‘Barbaric’ punishments, does it in some way make us as bad as those that commit these heinous crimes, would it create the wrong sort of society.

12 months in prison to sit and think about their crime and the punishment then a simple lethal injection and goodbye no more problems from that one.

The other thing that makes me really angry is with this term 'Life imprisonment' that doesn’t really mean what it says. If we can’t go down the death penalty route then life should mean exactly what is says, life until you die in prison, not 8, 10 or 15 years and absolutely no remission for any reason.
