Wooly steering feel

Well my 3 has a z3 3.0 coupe rear sway bar, all new bushes, m roadster front control arms, poly rear beam bushes and new bilsteins. It feels good. Better than new and I have owned it since 1998. The m is also nice just more isolated with less feel so I kind of buy the NVH argument. I was kind of hoping that there would be similar mods to make to the M that I made to the z3.

I am going to change to new shocks. Any suggestions? I certainly don't want a harder ride.

There are loads of threads about after-market springs and shocks if you search in the "M" specific section on here, like this one:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130441&hilit=suspension

All I can add is that if you don't want a firmer ride don't buy H & R coil-overs as they are definitely firmer than OE!

Going from an MC to an MR the faster rack in the MC is hugely noticeable the MR has been a bit disappointing for me but it could be the suspension is 16 years old vs 5 when I got my MC and had H&R springs on it which was a love hate too.

I hear you there Tom. Steering rack not withstanding, my MC and MR are like chalk and cheese,

Not a fashionable thing to say, as most online only sing their praises but when we switched my son's Suzuki Swift Sport from Continental to the PS4 there was a noticeable drop in steering feel.
Same thing on our M140i.

Probably more ultimate grip and traction, but they were exactly as you describe, wooly and a bit aloof. Every review I've read says otherwise, but that's how I found them to be.

You could try to max out the camber as suggested and see how that goes. That's how I have mine, it does tramline a little but it manageable.

Likely due to relatively soft sidewalls on the PS4.

Got new PS4 aswell, was a real letdown. Good ultimate grip but I actually thought I accidently got a chinese pirate-copy version, so woolly and soft are they. Just been a week at Nurburgring and while I was really impressed by the Supersports there, PS4 was the wrong choice.
Edit: Meant Pilot Sport 4S. Soft sidewalls there.

I can't speak for the Z4M feel at all. But I have driven my friend's Z4C with the same suspension and geo specs as my car and his steering feels super numb to me, which I think is all down to the tyres. He runs PS4s (not PS4Ss), and I Goodyear Asymmetric 5s. Worth trying a different tyre set if you can?

I’ve driven a Z4 Coupe 3.0 aswell, hated the steering. Clearly electric assisted and with no feel at all compared to my M Coupe

Are you fellas talking about the PS4 or the 4S?
Oh sorry, the 4S.

Sorry to disappoint but the MR and the Z3 both have PS4. I have only owned the car a few months and some fool had put run flats on the MR which were nearly new. I was going to let them wear out but I could not take it any more so on went new PS4. Now the ride on bad roads is merely awful.

With no disrespect meant I think perhaps if you have not driven something with highly communicative steering the wooly comment will be hard to understand.

The PS4 has relatively soft sidewalls which may be contributing to your perceptions about steering.

I've owned a Porsche 968 and a Lotus Evora, both of which are considered benchmarks when it comes to steering, and I would describe my Z4MR's steering feedback (with brand new inner and outer tie rods, front control arms and lollipop bushes) as pretty good. Certainly not woolly.

Maybe new lollipop bushes are in order. Changing the 3s bushes from stock to z3m roadster bushes helped alot.

Maybe I misunderstand, but who are you sorry to disappoint?

It's your car.

The above post suggested PS4 might be the cause. The z3 and rather z4 both have PS4 so yes you do missunderstand.

So anyone that doesn't agree with your opinion automatically doesn't know what they're talking about?

So why ask for other opinions then?

People trying to help you out with their experience and you treat them as ignorant.

Nice guy.

I don't know what your problem is actually. How exactly was I treating you or anyone as ignorant? If anything you come across as aggressive and angry with the world. If you don't like my thread please refrain from contributing so if anyone else wants to contribute they are not distracted by your vitriol.

In fact mods please delete this thread. This forum is better than this and people don't need to read personal attacks like the ones made by Jellyfishfields. It lowers the whole tone.

I thank those who made constructive contributions.

Don't worry, after reading some of of your other posts, which are written in a similar thinly vailed insulting manner, this will be the last time I'll be involved with any of your drivel.

I only wished I'd seen them before wasting my time on this.

Condescending remarks towards others on here without any knowledge of what they currently drive, have done so previously or what their backgrounds are.
Slating another who goes to all the effort of getting a product made so we have the possibility of more goods to buy for our cars, all of course with no positive or new input from yourself.

As for your last post in attempting to hold the moral high ground and calling for the mods to run to your assistance. Laughable.

A shame to see you dragging the place down, you should move over to Pistonheads, you'll fit right in.
