Wood Trim

Hi all,

Just recently bought my red Z4 3.0si Coupe, and am very tempted to order in the 'light variegated wood trim' to replace the aluminum trim. Would anyone have a pic by any chance of one with this trim inside it?
 
first of all why ?.......there is nothing worse than fake plastic wood trim !. I have never understood it with manufacturers, why add wood to the inside of a car interior ? i would hate the feeling of driving round knowing that everytime i look at my dash it reminds me of my grandma's coffee table ?

!......just my opinion though
 
The BMW wood trim isn't plastic. It has a protective coating, but it's definitely wood, and in my sapphire black coupe, looks pretty good. (light poplar)

But what i am getting at is.....why wood ? you take a fantastic piece of modern design / hi-tech engineering such as the Z4, then try to add a material (in some cases plastic) which looks heavy and the complete opposite of anything hi-tech ?

i just dont get it ?

Because wood is percieved as a high quality material and has a heritage in classic sports cars.

I'm not a massive fan of wood in the Z4 myself but it's a heck of a lot nicer than some of the plastic finishes they have.
 
Don't do I cannot think of anything worse, go for the Black Carbon Leather like I did, or Piano Black

I guess it's a question of taste. The aluminium trim looks cold and impersonal to me. As for the Madeira wood trim, it adds a texture and richness to the interior that I like and it matches well with the red interior. :D It's too bad that the door bars are still in aluminium. With four color, it's become very busy. :(

Just to verify, ALL wood trim available at BMW is genuine. I agree, there's NOTHING appealing about fake wood trim. It always looks clearly plastic. I think every single japanese car that has 'wood' is fake, including Lexus. It looks horrible. But genuine timbers are an allure if they're applied to the correct trim and colour combinations. I used to own a 1995 Audi 80 and it had the optional burred walnut with a dark velour interior, works very well without being dominant.

The light wood trim I'm talking about is a very light colour, and I think it'll work brilliantly with my black leather interior and bright red exterior. The aluminum trim I have at the moment is fine but to be honest it's not as good as the aluminum my 2006 Volvo S40 had. This one is very scratch prone, and to be honest the big slab of it on the dash sort of looks a bit cheap. The light variegated wood will be quite striking and appropriately aggressive, which is in keeping with the Z4 coupe.

I sat in a 7-series with the (Fineline) matte wood trim and it was marvelous. The matte finish mate the wood much warmer and seem far more "real" (i.e. natural). I know that BMW uses real wood, but the super-gloss protective coating really does go a bit overboard. I'd love the dark ash grain in matte... rich and dark, and with nice grain detail... IMHO, the big expanse of dash benefits from some kind of visual texture (grain or brushed).

This is the Sycamore trim. I opted for it not because I'm old :P but because I thought a small interior with black and silver would be dark and a bit flat. I like the black more now, but not sure how that would look with wood. I guess I like this set up because it also reminds me of the TVR I had for years and was quite attached to.
