wont run right

I recently purchased a 06 z4 3.0i
the motor had been hydrolcked and broke the #5 piston lands and unmercifully gouged up the cylinder but other then a nasty miss and a ton of blowby it ran reasonably well until it got hot
I purchased another motor out of another wrecked 06 z4 3.0si
I switched the entire intake and wiring harness over, i carfaxed the motors vin to a totaled car with 11k miles
Motor had no apparent dmg from the accident
upon start up today the motor has excessive clatter and seems to want to search for an idle
Did i miss something or need to reset something
Hoping we have a BMW tech on the boards that can steer me into the right direction
Yes i used new intake gaskets

Had a lose wire running problem solved although I have 3 codes.
One I'm not sure and two were there when I started
P1430. 2401,2419 two are related to the. Evap and I'm not sure how to diagnose the last just says BMW specific any help would be greatly appreciated

P1430 Electric Air Pump Secondary Failure
P2401 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit Low
P2419 Evaporative Emission System Switching Valve Control Circuit Low

Any idea where these are or how to diagnose which or if all are the problem?
Also question i had the motor i replaced the 3.0i with came from a 3.0si
Is it possibly for bmw or someone to upload the si program into it
Of course it has the single stage intake and wiring harness from the car
But it was my belief that the difference was merely the program making the difference between the twoThanks

Just a swag here, the P1430 is telling you the Secondary Air Pump is not working. Can you here it start upon start-up? It should run for 90 seconds.

The P2401 and P2419 are telling you that those signals are low or zero (not there). If you used the engine wiring harness from the 3.0i and NOT the 3.0si's wiring harness, then that could be a problem. I would have to go look at the WDS ( BMW electrical diagrams) and compare the pin outs.. They may be different.

Please tell me that you used the donor engines DME. I really don't think they are the same. You can check the part numbers on RealOEM and compare.

My guess it that with any engine swap (unless it is exactly the same model), you will have to have the dealer or someone, do some software updates.

I just checked RealOEM.

The P/N: for the DME for the 3.0i and 3.0si are the same...

Execpt the part number 12147571511 was replaced with 12147577970 in 09/2007.

I used everything from the car nothing from the donor motor the only thing that came from the si was block and cylinder head
The evap codes were present before the motor swap since it runs good now I am just getting to the evap codes that were present when i started
Anyone know where i can download a service manual so i can diagnose and fix it?Or if someone knows how to do it.You can call me 440-346-6444 Rich

I did check with a bmw service tech but seems they ran out of patience for free advice
Before i purchased the donor motor he assured me the block and head would be fine
if i used all of my current stuff from the car including the intake and harness
I could have purchased the dme also but since that would cause problems for the key it was a stick mine is auto etc i opted to not get it
Would have loved the free 40hp but didnt seem like it was something i could handle
Hell was nervous enough as this is my first exp with bmw period

If you are looking for a manual, Ebay is your best bet. The 'BMW TIS' is what you want. I have the 2007 version, but I know the 2010 version is out. Install it on a laptop....

It should cost about $10-15.00.

For the electrical manual, you are looking for the 'BMW WDS'. Version 12 (V12) is the latest I think.

The TIS does NOT have any electrical wiring diagrams or schematics.

Thanks ship i apparently wasted a bit of time today
Crude but wires to the pump showed no power(test light) also tried leaving them connected for startup
Does nothing no attempt at runnning

Shipkiller thanks for the great link...as a newbie Z4 owner I am hunger for knowledge...not to better myself but to protect myself! John

What did it turn out to be? I have those exact 3 codes. I have an e90, but i'm curious if it's the same thing.. I've already replaced the DMTL pump so I'm guessing its an electrical or vacuum issue..
