Wondering around the road

Had my car now for almost a week and loving it. The only problem I've found is that when ever I go above about 50mph the cars front doesn't seem that planted and I end up having to correct the steering all the time, is this normal? It sort of feels like driving a car when its windy. Just phoned the dealer and wondering what they are going to tell me.......

Well, *exacerbated* by run-flat tires. My 325Ci didn't have run-flats but still tramlined a bit. RFTs make it worse, though.

Someone else posted a tidbit that also calls in the nature of the rear alignment and the way the toe-in is set and flexes.

What has worked for me is, if traffic allows, let the car follow the groves instead of trying to fight it into a different line. No death grips on the steering wheel!!! :driving:

Front strut brace can also help with ths problem, toying in investing in one. Had one on a Z3 made a noticable difference.

Bought my Z4 last week and also noticed quite a lot of tramlining. Changed from runflats to Toyo Proxes and made for a much better drive.

Zed_steve - what do the front strut brace's look like? My Z4 is the only one I've ever seen under the bonnet so nothing to compare with, but I have what appear to be 2 diagonal bars from the top of the suspension struts to the centre near the windscreen. Are these standard? or are they the strut brace?

mine doesnt do this anymore...

only I changed was wheels and run flat tire brand :D but noone listens to me

It really troubled me when I first got the car. I could not afford to swap tyres and like the security of RFTs. Get the car aligned and, as has been said, don't fight her! Elbow on the window sill and a light touch on the wheel.

Drive round France and you will realise how poor our roads are.

Those bars are standard on the Z4. This is a strut brace http://www.roadstersolutions.com/page79.html#351

Yea, a prophet crying in the wilderness!

I'm going to get the Michelins when these OEMs are shot. Then there will be two of us. :D

To be fair there are couple more now with the Michelins - but none quite as vocal as me about them
