women in f1

where do I start ? I could at this point bang on that women dont have the mental capacity, stamina strength or agressivness to compete in f1, this is going to be a lively topic with strong views on both sides...... forget the williams drivers name as i only heeard it this morning, dont know how far away she is from getting a team place but I think nothing could be better for F1,good luck williams,I for one would absolutely love to see a lady driver Kick Vettels ASS !!!!

I think and hope its only a matter of time before women are racing in F1 again. Its slowly becoming less male dominated. With a female teem manager at force India. She seems to be doing a good job.

I have to agree. I have the utmost respect for SM but he is living in the past! Good luck to Susie Wolff, although I must confess that I will be surprised if she makes the grade, she didn't exactly set the world alight in DTM.

the only problem i can see with a woman being an f1 friver is her looks. if she doesnt match up to a blond-beauty try standard AND be the best driver i think she will get passed by for a lesser bloke. it wrong but in that sport at the moment i think its the way it is.

good luck to any who try. it certainly may put some of the guys machoness in touch. could you imagine if the finger-man got beaten by a woman!

i have no doubt a woman could match the strength/endurance/metal abitly of a male f1 driver. why wouldnt they be able to. there are plenty of sports where women are doing equal phyical tasks.


i think simon cowel got in trouble for this in stricly-come-iceskating-factor when he said to some fat girl that she had a great voice but he apearance would hold her back so he dropped her.

Good luck to them but I don't really care what gender the driver claims to be as long as they pull off some nifty overtakes.

I think if women can demonstrate the strength and stamina etc. they may have a weight advantage in that lower body mass will mean more flexible options for ballast.

I dont think SM's comments are accurate, I do wonder if the lack of women drivers is a lack of opportunity (and im sure that plays a part) or lack of interest.

Isn't Susie Wolff's husband Toto Wolff? As in Williams Executive Director? Coincidence??

I think he has moved to Mercedes now, so be interesting to see if she stays at Wiliams when he sells his stake in the team!

While I don't agree with what he said in principle, I think he was suggesting that women will always be disadvantaged compared to men because they have a greater inate sense of self-preservation. So even on a totally level playing field, I would expect men to dominate a sport such as F1 just because of the sheer bias in the number of them willing to put themselves at risk.

Many low-barrier-to-entry dangerous sports where women don't face anywhere like the level of prejudice that they do in F1 are still dominated by men - base jumping, big waves, street luge, free climbing etc.
