Wobbly Petrol Cap Cover

My petrol cap is wobbly. It still locks but is really loose. Is it difficult to get off? Does anyone have any guidance on how to remove it?

Is that a 2003 model? They had the issue with the flap actually falling off. There is a BMW note on the replacement of that, but would have to dig through the archives to find that so first need to know if it is the 2003 model issue.

It was rectified in the 2004 production year, so it won't be that issue.

Has the rubber seal fallen apart inside the cap? happened to me and was a PITA. replaced it and now much improved.

Do you mean the cap that goes on the fuel tank filler? As it's the cover that's loose on mine.

Could be the hinge itself?
The cover assembly is very easy to remove.
One small torx screw at the back corner, then turn the plastic grommet around the locking pin anticlockwise a few degrees and remove that.
Then ease the whole thing out.
If it's not repairable then it should be fairly easy to pick up a replacement, probably from someone on here.

Yes, I meant the small cap inside. Sorry for the misunderstanding and hope you get it resolved soon

It feels like it could be the hinge. The whole cover itself moves up and down. I have a video showing the movement but it would let me upload it.

Once I've laid the car up for the winter I'll try this .
