Wobbly Front Fog Light

Washing the car at the weekend, I noticed one of my fog lights was a little wobbly; further investigation highlighted I'm missing the screw that fits into the underside of the light & connects it to the bumper.

Looking at RealOem

I presume I will need both parts 2 & 3, i.e. the screw itself & something for it to screw into? Could have part 3 already on the car still, but haven't investigated too far.

Do I access the back of the light from the compartment in the wheel arch, and if so, is this easy to do or will by chubby fingers me techincally once again?

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,
The fog light is attached at three points, two on the main body of the light accessed from behind the light and attaches to the rear of the bumper and the third on the arm that extends to the left of the light in the picture you linked to which is screwed from the outside of the bumper.

My nearside fog was wobbling and it turned out I was missing the complete arm from the unit which meant a whole new unit - about £100 a pop from the stealers.

I took my bumper off as I had some other bits to do, by all means give it a go through the access panel, you'll need a torch otherwise there's a neat bumper removal how-to in this forum.

Good luck
Dave

Thanks Dave.

Makes sense to me, the 3rd arm I believe is present; when I lie on the ground & look up through the hole where the screw should be & move the foglight I can see what I believe to be the arm moving.

Whether the arm is complete however is a different matter and may explain why the original screw fell out.

I'm hoping that by holding the foglight in place, I might be able to just screw it in; however that depends on whether I need something on the back of the arm to screw the screw into if you know what I mean?

Did you require a backing plate for the screw or did it just tighten itself into the hole that exists within the arm itself?

Thanks

Matt

I think it needs what BMW call a c clip on the arm otherwise as you say there's nothing to screw into.
I haven't fitted my new unit yet so I can check it when I get home tonight if that helps.

Cheers

Cheers Dave, that would be great.

Hope mine is still attached as taked it from a 2 min job to a longer one.

Although I have ordered a couple of screws already.....plus the minimum order of part 3....10 units!

So if anyone does want any of them, let me know!

Matt

Right I've just taken the light out of the box and it has no c-clips just holes for the screws, therefore the c-clips must be on the bumper itself.

Cheers

Cheers Dave, appreciate the effort.

Might have 10 clips spare then!

If anyone wants some, PM me.
