Wobbly clutch pedal

A few weeks back i bought a BMW alloy pedal set - for a 1 series but i was told would fit a Z4 - and for some reason BMW parts only has the Auto set listed against the Z4 - I was going to fit this today (requires drilling into some marked holes)

However when removing the pedals stock rubber pads I noticed my clutch pedal has a lot of sideways play to it.. i removed the plastic under the dash to look at the assembly but its seems the cradle which holds the pedal is secure so it just wobbles within it cradle - is this normal? Never noticed it before when driving. I dont really want to drill into them to find they are faulty and then BMW refuse to touch it under the warranty!
 
This is a very common issue with our clutches, I have no idea what the engineers were thinking with this one.
There are a few sources for replacement (better) bushings that help a bit.
 
On a related note, does anyone know what dealers do to the pedals and steering wheel ? Every time any of my cars have been at the dealers, it feels as if they adjust (soften) the pedals and steering wheel - obviously not the accelerator. Its like they apply grease or something? :? The car always feels different when I collect it, not in a bad way!

First thing tuesday i'll book it in for BMW to look at then - before i fit my pedals! I've waited this long I can wait a few more weeks to fit them.

Maybe they reset all the warning and the ecu is back to learning mode which makes the car feel different? I remember when i got my car reprogrammed they cleared all the hostorical errors and the car felt and drove totally different.
