Out of interest, how common are manual Z4s in the States? I'd have assumed (perhaps incorrectly?) that most would have opted for auto boxes.

(Though the irony of that is the E60 M5 offered as a manual over there and not in Europe/UK).

I don’t have any official numbers but just from observing the websites that list cars for sale, when I use their filtering options, I’d say roughly 2/3 auto 1/3 manual. I don’t know why anyone would want a sports car with an automatic transmission unless they had a physical issue that would preclude them using a manual transmission.

Oh well, guess that’s why there is chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

The manual transmission has been steadily loosing favor in the US for decades :roll: I just read that more electric cars are being sold than cars with manual transmissions. I was reviewing a list of 30 some cars offered with a manual transmission today in the US. Most look to be little econo cars, under powered, and boring. The exceptions being the Ford Mustang and the Lotis Evora
Typically when I'm searching for a Z4 I find 50 and maybe 5-6 have a manual trans. Which is why I was very happy to find my 3L E89 with a stick
I know the current DCTs are fantastic mechanisms and several great cars are only offered with the auto like the new Z4 and Corvette but I'm old school. And now if you will excuse me I have some gears to shift :lol:
