Wishbone bush bolt size

Hi there

Purchased some Lemforder front wishbone, rear bushes last night from Euro Car Parts

These didn't come with the bolts

From real OEM it looks like these are M10 x 35 long grade 10.9 flanged bolts.

Does anyone know what pitch they are please?

From a previous thread on here it would appear that the bolt is 16mm across flats so it looks like fine thread maybe M10 x 1.25?

Any info much appreciated

Cheers

Andy
Thanks

Andy

I Think I have some spare in the garage from previous replacement I will have a look and get back to you (if I can find them)

What's wrong with the originals that came out btw?? :?

Cheers mate

I do prefer to replace bolts for the suspension. The torque applied typically takes these bolts close to yield/proof strength and so is good practice to replace.

Plus knowing my luck the bolt will be a complete pain to remove and I'll have to ustilise the bolt remover to remove.

If you could check for me I would really appreciate it

Thanks again

Andy

Changed the bushes earlier in the year. The original torque setting was not high and the bolts loosened fairly easily so i did not feel there was a 'yield' issue
I ended up putting originals back as they looked better quality than the ones that came with replacements.
I bought a 16mm hex drive socket (impact type)rather than the multi hex. It is a popular size on the BM for suspension and brakes.
Here is the replacement bolt below
I think 1.25 is the tread pitch btw

BTW. I also posted a 'how to' It may save you some time as getting the bushes off the wishbone can be quite a challenge. :)

Cheers.... no bother.
Made a big difference in the steering. My original bushes were pretty 'shot' even though it had just passed an MOT. The Z was actually pretty dangerous to drive with them in that condition.

Yea I'm hoping it will make a difference. The front end doesn't feel secure under braking and just doesn't feel as precise as is should do. Well I'll be changing them tomorrow I think so we shall see.

Just a quick note regarding changing the wishbones....

I have just changed the front wishbones and bushes, drop links, and ARB Bushes. I didn't touch the track rod ends, but when I took it for a test drive it was twitching and pulling all over the road. Took it to get tracked and it was off the guages!!! Now its been adjusted it drives like a new car. I know you are supposed to get the alignment checked whenever you change suspension components, but I wouldn't have believed replacing the wishbones could throw it out by so much. It drove fine before they were renewed.

Good point.
The Z seems very sensitive to any steering geometry changes, suspension, tyre type etc. Its worth while getting the tracking checked after and work like wishbone changes.

Were the wish bones OEM parts btw

I replaced my wishbones and bushes last weekend - getting the tracking done this Friday.

Like itsa1975, I didn't think that replacing these parts would warrant a re-tracking, but I suppose the new parts only need to be fractionally different...

The bolts are:

33306760652 - rear control arm / wishbone bush (lollipop) bolts (x4)

I bought them from BMW - about £5 for the four

All the parts i replaced were OEM parts except the ARB bushes which I changed for poly bushes. You can buy aftermarket wishbones etc for a quarter of the price of OEM ones, but I would be a little worried about the quality and how long they would last.

One other point about tracking.... If you have a staggered wheel set up (Wider rears) Many places struggle or can't track them, as the guages don't line up between the front and back. You may have to take it to a specialist who can do four wheel alignment and has the kit to deal with a staggered set up. (Either that or put on a set of same size wheels!) :D

Cheers for all your help - especially the guide from Toe-side

Got the bushes changed the other week

Was a nice easy job. Far easier than I imagined. Removing the old bushes required the grinder and slitting disc.

Car feels a bit better - but still goes where it wants. As has been mentioned I am going to get the tracking sorted.

Also the front ARB bushes look to be gone - can see plenty of light through the top of them so I will get those done at some point

Thanks again

Cheers
