Wireless Charging Back?

Think an original apple MagSafe would provide faster and better magnetic

This is not entirely true. I personally don't use any sort of wireless charging with the phone. Only wireless charger is for the watch, which I have no choice. However, I use magsafe wallet. I find that appel's magsafe is not the strongest and you can buy a lot much stronger magsafe devices on the market. Also, apple's wireless charging speed is not the best neither.

But, there are always some trade off to make for any engineering matters. This is no exception.

What you think? The MagSafe charger is underneath which causes a bit of a bend, but it works

I think that looks really neat, will probably end up doing something very similar when I get mine.

So the limiting factor here in charge speed is both the MagSafe charger I bought which is non apple (apple MagSafe is 15w) and the fact that it’s not usb-c connection which limits the power flow. Reality is that I’m getting just enough to maintain charge if I’m using waze and music.
Which is fine for the most part and actually similar to what I had when I did have an official bmw wireless charger.
I might put some pads either side so that it sits flat although having a slight lip makes it easier to pull the phone out as you push the top and the bottom just pops up making it easier to grab!

I’m just happy with the neat finish. I still keep a usb-c cable in the armrest which on long journeys I will use to fully charge the phone.

FYI. The bmw wireless charger used to heat the phone so much that it used to shut down from heat.

You might get a car with wireless charging? It’s back on the options if you ordered the tech pack?

Unfortunately I've checked the build options for my car with the Genius team and it's definitely showing as deleted. :)

It really isn’t a big loss.
Well, my method is a simple solution. ;)
When you get your car I’ll give you full details although I think it’s pretty self explanatory.

I used picture mounting Velcro to stick the MagSafe charger under the rubber tray which just lifts off. I wrapped the remaining cable around it to keep it as neat as possible and have only a small amount of wire showing.
I will put some pads down to make the tray completely level when I get a chance tomorrow.
My only regret is not using a genuine apple MagSafe charger.

Thanks Ori !

I have it but never use it as too slow and phone gets too hot. Only have it as it comes as standard on First Editions.

That’s what I found when I had it. My new system works better. ;)

I got this one in TK Max,take the rubber box out and it fits pretty well and you just chuck the phone on it, no positioning and adjusting.

I like that. Can you send a link to it? Or if no link what’s the make of the pad so I can search for it?

gg-stqi-blk wireless charger

Listed in Amazon but Not Available.
It might still be in TK MAXX ,was just piled in amongst the bargain tat at the checkouts.

It's in stock here........ https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/gabbagoods-wireless-charging-stand-pad-3996106p.html

I also bought charging pad, but a bit smaller and put it instead of tray. Got very short, angled USB cable from Amazon and I'm keeping pad in position by double sided tape. It should be ok to clean tape residue when parting with the car in future and cover it with tray again. I checked and pad charges phone whether I put it up or down. I wanted to eliminate number of cables around console. Total cost £20.58.

The pad on the picture above looks pretty good too.

[ref]Roadster_Surrey[/ref], thanks. That was done by putting a MagSafe under the pad. Added advantage that phone doesn’t move around and is also gripped by the pad.

Finally had a chance to test my charging setup on a longer drive.
Phone got hot but never overheated and charge stayed at 100% while using waze and music.
Happy with that! ;)
