Wireless Charging Back?

Z4 configurator is showing Wireless Charging and Enhanced Bluetooth as a selectable option again at £350, also showing as a component in Technology Pack again (having been removed temporarily last year).

Yeah I saw that. Enhanced Bluetooth makes no difference to me, but I wouldn’t mind the wireless charger back.

Yeah wasn't too fussed about it initially but now I know Carplay doesn't work over a wired connection I'm a tad annoyed!

Absolutely ridiculous isn’t it? I fear that introducing a badge so expensive, it’ll be prone to theft.

I ended up getting a MagSafe charger for the centre arm rest. I might get some tape and make it as the phone just about fits in the slot. That way I won’t need to align it every time I put the phone in the car.

Ori - Which MagSafe charger did you go for? Wouldn’t mind seeing a photo of how it looks in place when you have time!.

I bought a cheaper one from Amazon. Gonna try and fix it in place shortly. Will add a picture.

Think this works better though. :(

Thanks Ori - I was struggling to visualise how this would look, difficult when you haven’t actually got the car yet!

So is there a problem with that last setup? Looks pretty neat I thought?

This setup leaves my front storage free for sunglasses. ;)

You do know there is a little cubbyhole for sunglasses under the dash on the drivers right?

Well, both work, but just easier to reach forward for the phone rather than the centre arm rest.
I’ll be honest, wireless charging isn’t the best as when you are using waze and listening to music it barely charges and gets quite hot.
For longer journeys I would connect using a usb c in the arm rest. It’s the fastest charging and phone stays cool.

Saying that, if I do put my phone down, the wireless charging works well. I have attached the charger to the floor using non marking adhesive pads.

So, I removed the tray, and put it all underneath and it looks a lot better.
What you think? The MagSafe charger is underneath which causes a bit of a bend, but it works

[ref]ori[/ref], if you don't use the touch function of the idrive rotary dial, you can try sticking the magsafe to the top of the dial. The size should be perfactly matched and the magsafe should be strong enough to hold the phone.

Yeah, but then you have a cable running along.

See my updated picture. I hid all the wires underneath and it works really well.
If I had the skills, I could probably do a diy installation of wireless charging.
I’m
Surprised BMW have decided to offer this service and retrofit it.

Ah, okay, when I replied, I didn't see the second picture. That looks neat.

Thanks. I’m quite happy with the result. Think an original apple MagSafe would provide faster and better magnetic, but this will do. Looks good.
I throw the phone in there and it shows as charging straight away. Not fiddling about needed as the phone is so big!
