WIPER SWITCH does not work

Hi there!
OK, my wipers wouldn't work the all, however, when pulled back (for water and soap use) they did work, I checked the fuse (there is only one) for the wipers, so I figured must be the wiper switch, Do I need to replace it? Can I reset it and make it work? thanks.

take a look at this first

Mine did the same a while ago, and it needed a 'general module' and coding. Can't tell you the cost as it was done under warranty.

I assume by "pulled back" you mean you lifted the arms off the windshield?

And if they worked at that point, it sounds more like your motor is giving up, as it can't seem to move the blades under pressure.

You could *try* my motor fix howto... it only takes an hour to do the first time and could save you some $$$, but as I've only ever had this kind of problem on a Toymotor, I can't say if it would actually help.

However, it does mean you can get the motor out and see if its under strain etc :)

good luck and keep us informed :)

I think he means when you pull back on the internal column mounted wiper 'stalk' for a wash/clean the system works. This would suggest the motor and mechanism are OK and probably not your previous link/fix (and an excellent 'how to' that was). Rocky - you dont say if your wipers still work when pulled back for a wash/wipe or if they have given up all together. If they have given up altogether then sk93s solution may well be the best 'no cost' starting point. If the washer works but not the wipers then this narrows it down to a wiper only problem. If you access the motor you can check with a meter to see if power is reaching it - meter across the power input terminals and get someone to operate the column stalk. Just some options which may help isolate your issue and save a few hard earned beer tokens at the dealers.

in that case AlanJ, this is very similar to an issue in my Focus. Forget the switch; go pull out the £6 relay and test/replace!

where it is... no idea.. but I'd bet it's that bugger that's gone.

Agree - wiper switch itself part no. 61318363664 is shown for $97.81on real OEM and relays at $14 so not desperate in terms of expense whatever has happened. Suggest trying the relay first as this is the cheaper replacement.

BUT as you say it's finding the thing - perhaps a word with your local friendly BWW mechanic SORRY....auto technician! AND yes there are some friendly ones.... :)

Spooky. Mine has started to work intermittently today. It was doing it one journey last week. Have wimped out and brought my Oil service forward to next week. I have also asked them to sort out the driver's door membrane.

Bit like Z4 malfunction bingo this. Just need a busted spring for the full house :D

It's like a lot of cars these days, they have similar problems, and many of ours are 6 years old.Mine is past it's 6th birthday, and any little things that go wrong are to be expected. That said, it's been 100% reliable in the 18 months I've owned it. ( done it now haven't I!!! :D )
