wiper rocker switch

I have auto wipers and am a bit confused with the rocker switch on the wiper arm. Am I right in thinking that pushing the wiper arm to position zero nothing happens position one (push up one) that sets it to auto. Up another position 2 sets it to intermittent and push up again 3 is fast wipe?

Now on all previous cars I've had, position 2 you can use the rocker switch to change the speed and delay between strokes. Now I've been playing with the rocker switch due to the wet weather lately, and I can feel it click 3 times from bottom to top, but nothing happens regarding speed and delay in position 2 or 3 on the rocker switch. Is this correct on all auto wiper cars, so it’s just a dummy switch due to being auto, or is it in fact broken?

I've looked in the manual and on the site and cant seem to find an answer. Does anyone know?

Cheers :D

Have you checked if you've got air bubbles in the rain sensor (can be seen from outside of the wind shield)? If that's the case, position 2 with automatic mode will probably not work. See this link for info: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3136

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly but I'll have a try to answer. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Position zero = wipers off
Position one = wipers on automatic. The rocker switch adjusts the sensitivity of the auto wipe (i.e. how much rain is required to operate it).
Position 2 = constant wipers (slow)
Position 3 = constant wipers (fast)

If you leave the arm on position 1, it will not operate after you restart the car until you either move the arm or adjust the sensitivity (apparently to prevent the wipers going off unexpectedly in something like a car wash).

as medium dave suggests is how mine works :D

rocker switch is simply adjusts the sensitivity of the auto wipers. I tend to leave mine in auto all the time...

Yup what Dave said is correct. I dont like the system much myself because as you slow so do the wipers. So it could be throwing it down and when you stop the wipers slow right up and in slow moving traffic this is no good as they take there time to speed up again (roughly 20mph+). Would of prefered the slow speed to be adjustable.

On my 3 Series without automatic wipers, the wipers slow to intermittent every time you stop. As soon as you start moving (well below 20 mph) they return to the continuous mode you have selected. My Z4 (with auto wipers) does the same when I have continuous wipers selected. I like the way it does this as it prevents the wipers from squeaking when you are stationary.
