Wiper problem

My wipers haven't been parking correctly for quite some time. Just reciently they have got progressively worse on occasions parking about 2 inches higher than before. I've read about the possible grease trail in the motor. So today went to take it out and have a look. Hasn't went to plan as i cannot get the wiper arms off! Any ideas? Anyway got fet up and put everything back together only now the wipers will not operate in fast mode! They now have off, intermittent mode, interrmittent mode again, and normal speed where fast should be!!! What have i broke? I did tap around the wiper arms with a hammer trying to get them off......?
 
This happened on my Golf, The wiper motor needed replacing. First sign is they dont park, second sign is a one speed only performance. Dont know if anyone else has any idea's.

My friend is experiencing the similar problem on the windshield wipers of his car and it's kinda annoying. We're both kinda curious if both of you were able to solve this problem and can you kindly share what did you do to fix it if you happen to find one. Or replacing the wiper motor is the only thing to fix this. Any other helpful suggestion is appreciated.

Exactly the same problem my car had when I bought it. Seems a pretty common one with the Z4. I took it to my local indy and had the motors cleaned and job sorted. Cost me £60 I think.
