Morning folks

Just received new wiper blades to replace the ancient ones...

Now as you can see from the first photo of the old blades the passenger one sits low (LHD car).. These were Bosch blades..
In the 2nd photo the new wiper blade also sits low.. These replacements are Valeo Hydro Connect and are a quality set - I know some people will prefer other makes OE, Bosch or whatever)..

I have confirmed again that these are the correct blades for the car/compatible and the blade lengths (500mm passenger and 530mm driver)..

Do other owners blades sit low on the passenger side or is there an adjustment to make? Before touching them I just wanting to cofirm that there is no special BMW trick to adjust them...

Mine aren't so low... they dont' overlap the plastic. You can see it goes up at quite an angle vs the drivers side.

I’d pull the wiper arm off (probably need a puller for this) & move it round to a more suitably positioned spline :?

Thanks.... I was thinking that was what would be needed.. Before having a fiddle (it was a long time ago on older cars when I last lifted and replaced wiper arms) I wanted to check there was another BMW specific way of doing things..

So the driver wiper sits horizontally and the passenger one is angled up a bit to just miss the edge...

I was hoping it might just pull off.. I was thinking you were talking about a gear puller but I see there are actually pullers for wiper arms and battery terminals etc.. Good tip..

Just been out cleaning mine. This is how the wipers look.

Thanks.... Can you confirm that there is a slight twist on the passenger's wiper arm? On my car it looks that way and I'm wondering if the arm has been twisted at some point?

Mark

Now back in the garage. 😟 Can’t see a twist. Closeups below.

You would need a good grip to put a twist in a wiper arm!
If the blade touches anything but the glass it will be damaged very quickly, yours is certainly far too low.
Do the arms have any play in them at the pivot point??

Yes I was thinking the wiper arms were pretty robust.... There is no play at all at the pivot point. I had a bit of a try to get the arm off but no luck. I have order a 'puller' designed for removing wiper arms.... Definitely they need adjusting...

Afternoon,

Just got the wiper arm 'puller'..... Well it got it the passenger arm off - it detached with a noise like a pistol going off...

I have taken photos of it but for me this twist can't be normal?

Can anyone confirm the BMW number for the arm (is it 61617198674 ? ) - the ones on the Hubauer web site suggest this is an E85 item? My vehicle is an Z4 E89 ...

Thanks for taking the time guys....

I tried the arm at the correct park position and the blade was at 45 degrees to the windscreen.. Trying to understand how someone got a twist like this in what is quite a sturdy piece...

New passenger arm has been ordered.... The beast can be a one bladed special until the other arrives..

One thing I can thouroughly recommend is the wiper arm 'puller'.. Not too expensive and really impossible to do without one..
