Wiper Blades

I might have jumped the gun on my cheap Wilco blades. I noticed today how noisy they are when they reverse direction.
Once heard, it can't be unheard.

So how long are the oem ones if people say 20” is too long for passenger side...are oem passenger side 19”?

I just measured them, passenger side is 19.75" they fit and function perfectly.

Thanks, measured also and got same results. Are the oem ones still like coat hangers?

Deb got some oem ones for her 2014 1'er and they look like flat ones, so if the z4 oem ones are also like that then I'd be happy.

Guess I could go in and look.

Picked up a set of aero blades for the Z4 at our local 'What' shop, large discount store crammed full of chinese goods 2.99 a blade, unknown make but they work very well on the Z4. Usually I send for aero blades from ebay suppliers, never had problems with them on any of our cars.

Well popped into work and on the way i noticed my blades coming apart. The one blade the plastic trim had shifted 3 inches and the rubber had fallen out of it's guide. And the other blade heading the same direction, steel strip sticking out an inch.
Time to reinvest in the Bosch blades they replaced.

Also the cheap blades make the arms stick out a long way from the shield, just looks naff.

Take a look, they seem fine to me, fits the contour of the screen properly.

Silverstar, yes i have just bought a pair of those, stick to what worked before.
Bosch Sp22/20s £22 Halfords.

hahahaha...so I got the aerotwin ones and as people say, the last inch or so doesn't go against the glass, and when wiping, it misses a bit.

So back they went and I got the sp22/sp20 as mentioned.

And they were £15 cheaper.

Might not look as good as I wanted, but then the whole point for changing them was because the passenger side was crap, so ultimately not much point spending £37 and still not being right.

If they made the aerotwin ones with stronger "bend" then that might be good.

Going to try them tomorrow.

Mine are OEM around 28 GBP from the stealers, if I remember correctly.

I did note at Halfords their check book suggested 21 and 20 inch. But they don't come as pairs in a box.
So i bought the 22/20s, which are cheaper than buying the smaller and boxed individually .

This is exactly what I've been saying. The flat type blades look silly as they don't sit flat. I went through a few different combinations before realising the OEM route is the way to go.

true, I read all the posts but had to learn for myself as I didn’t fully understand the actual problem.

Tried the other type today (coathanger) and the 20” are similar (not as bad), so they’ve gone back and I’ll go to the stealer tomorrow.

I wonder if a 19” aero would work, but then would it have enough reach at the top of the screen?

So I fitted the dealer set today.

The box says 20” and 22” but the passenger one is (as said previously) about 19.75”. It fits perfectly.

Nice quiet wipe now, no juddering or squeaking - can actually hear the wiper motor now.

Very satisfying!

ps: they were £44 from the stealer! Could’ve probably got them cheaper from Cotswold BMW as they are normally much much cheaper but was impatient. Next time I won’t p$ss about with aftermarket ones and will go straight to OEM.

Yep those are the ones I got back in May. 44 GBP seems steep! I just checked my invoice from Bmw it says 31.42 less 10% discount, so I paid 28.28 plus VAT. Even at the full price without discount it comes to a total off 38.02 GBP well under 44 GBP. But anyway sometimes OEM is the way to go

When it comes to the measurements it seems the accurate measures are in metric since 500mm is actually 19.75" and 550mm is 21.5" not sure why they print 20" and 22" when they are not!

Yeah, my dealer is expensive, my price was with discount as well!

So I paid through the nose but am (so far) happy with them. Next time I will check elsewhere, I’ve always had excellent prices from Cotsworld BMW (sponsor of babybmw.net)
