Winters approaching - exhaust protection

When I was changing my oil last week I noticed that various parts of the exhaust system were showing signs of rust. We all know that exhausts can and do rot from the inside out due to condensation but the dreaded tin worm can hit the hangers and the joints including the weld points. I therefore will be spraying these parts with BBQ/stove paint which can be purchased from any hardware/diy shop. I have always found it to be very effective on other cars and significantly prolongs the point at which exhaust replacement is needed. Used annually it will pretty much eradicate even fairly rusty parts and being temperature resistant doesnt burn off .
And all for about £7 a can - hope others might find this helpful

The exhaust itself is stainless steel should last the life of the car. But your right many of the brackets and others bits under the car are pained steel. And need protecting. When ever I have changed any parts (most of my suspension) I have painted and treated everything I could. Good work nice to see someone else keeping the underside in good shape. Not just the shinny paintwork

Yep, otherwise you paint the rust and it all falls off.

If there are any hard lumps of rust then they should be removed. Otherwise a couple of good sprays about 10 minutes between and the paint seems to penetrate the rust. Not perfect I agree but previously the method has provided significant protection - needs topping up every year.
