Winter workhorse + Health update

When my first wife was embroiled in her battle with it she struggled to talk openly as she felt she was burdening people.

When we lost our baby son, I went around telling everyone I met. It was a weird kind of 'release' for me.
I soon learned that it made people really uncomfortable and would avoid me like the plague. They still do 18 years on TBH. :lol:

N4LLY, I’ve been following this thread from the beginning and like others have struggled on what to say, you are a true inspiration to others suffering with cancer and other terrible conditions, and I take my hat off to you for how you are dealing with it. Keep strong and keep the updates coming.

Hi Sean, really saddened to hear of your recent problem, I think you did really well to attempt it never mind to get where you did. Now I know a bit more about the disease and it’s consequences and the effects of the treatments and all the medications that is all part of the treatment it is no wonder we are continually shattered and totally lacking in energy.
Whenever I go and see one of the specialists, their first question is always “ well, how are you feeling today” and if they have a sense of humour I reply with “I’m just thinking of some polite words to say”. generally the reaction is “that’s OK I’ve heard it all before” and much wose probably.
For all the good about using morphine as a pain killer, the side effects can be horrible.
All very best to you, keep up with the banter, best regards Mike

It's a 20i but you got the colour right! :)
Flash backs to mine :D

Sean, Keep the updates coming especially if it helps you to have an outlet. I certainly helps me and no doubt others, to put our comparatively minor problems into perspective.

Don't let your latest set back stop you from making the most of what you can. You are an inspiration and you deserve whatever pleasures in life you can still experience :thumbsup:

after a really miserable (In every way) week.

This Z4 forum is truly a family and a credit to humanity :) :thumbsup:

Thanks again 8)

I can fully understand what a few kind words mean.
When was in hospital a while back, those texts did wonders for moral!

It’s always good to know someone is in your corner :thumbsup:

So sorry to see how your trip went horribly wrong Sean, but at least you managed to get home which I'm sure is where you would choose to be.

I may have said it before but your positive attitude is a real inspiration so keep it up and as always I wish you all the best. :thumbsup:

This thread must be one of the few where there hasn't been a disagreement! :lol:

Health:
Has gone downhill the last week - 10 days :(
Nurse Hailey from Hospice cam yesterday. Asked if i could book into the hospice for 2 weeks for pain releif management and on site closer care.
I said no and rattled off 100 reaasons why not.
They are now arrangeing for a Hospital bed to be delivered to me :)
I have to go to Hospice this morning to meet with Nurse Claire. I hope they can sort out a
pain releif and sleep regime as soon as possible.

Palliative care waqs supposed to be all about comfort and quality of life. This is not working out for me at the moment :cry:

Blue badge summary: Council car parks free to use, private ones you still need to pay even if in a disabled space. Single yellow is all good as long as you don't obstruct traffic. There will always be a sign whether you need to pay. You don't need to park in a disabled space in a council car park to not have to pay, just display the badge. Shop disabled spaces obvious.

Some parking locations you need a parking disc as disabled is for x number of hours only, but that is rare.

I had to explain it all to my mother in law and that is the summary that covers the vast majority of cases.

But don’t worry - they come with an instruction booklet and a clock card.
It’s important that you are with the car when it’s being used.

Sean, I'm a long term lurker and been following this thread from start. Like others have said, I wasn't really sure what to say so haven't posted before. I'm sure there are many others who are in the shadows and wishing you well. Your posts have elicited a range of emotions from sadness and shock to inspiration and laughter. Wishing you and your family all the best.

[ref]pvr[/ref], [ref]ronk[/ref], Thanks guy's :thumbsup:

[ref]GJ1[/ref], Very kind words. I thank you, cheers :thumbsup:

Meeting this morning with Nurse Claire was fairly routine. More painkillers coming to experiment with, inc. liquid parracetamol, which is can mix with Oxycodone apparently :? Sleeping tablets seem to be a taboo subject, must kill this pain problem first :roll:

Melanie and Connor made room for Hospital bed to slot in. Bed is arriving tomorrow. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Melanie caught me doing the accounts online with the bank :rofl:

Apologies if I am being ignorant but if your asleep you wont feel pain. A good few hours sleep would appear to be essential so why no sleeping pills?

[ref]Nanu[/ref], I honestly do not know why, have requested sleeping aids several times, one of the care nurses has put in a request
but that will need approval from a GP or cancer Doctor. Watch this space. It's the same for steroids, whilst on Chemo' i was issued a couple of days worth but that's it. I have asked if could be added to prescription but "no" . Asked again this morning but Nurse Claire quoted my bleed incidents
recently as to why not being issued.

Maybe the Forum Dr. will be along shortly to explain ? :?

Morning Sean,

Short courses of corticosteroids will help your appetite, help you feel a little more energised and help you cope with inflammatory insults to your body like chemo / radiotherapy etc, but avoiding long term use of steroids makes sense because they have pretty potent side effects including:
- suppressing your immune system (likely already suppressed) making you more vulnerable to opportunistic infections;
- fluid retention and hypertension, which may have knock-on effects on your heart, especially if it’s already been damaged by chemo etc;
- depression and sleep disturbance;
- muscle wasting and weakness;
- diabetes;
- gastric ulcers;
- thin, fragile skin / mucous membranes, skin ulceration, poor wound healing and fragile blood vessel walls leading to easy bruising, spontaneous bleeding, and wounds that don’t heal. All of these are significant concerns for you since you’re experiencing spontaneous bleeds already.

I’m not sure why there’s a reluctance to prescribe sleeping tablets. It seems to me that your daytime somnolence (see pic above) might improve if you slept at night!
