Winter wheels / tyres

I see a few of these threads coming up over the next few weeks!

I've read through lots of the winter thread already, but wanted to confirm - lots of folks on here suggest skinnier 215 or 225s, same all round for winter. All those comments I've found are E85s....just wanted to triple check that wasn't an E85 thing alone, and that I should go squared on my E89 too?

Think I'll just grab a cheap gumtree deal - and if the same all round, it'll likely be easier to find too!
 
There are benefits with narrow wheel/tyre for driving in snow, but expect a compromise in normal/dry weather performance. Plus the tyres are likely to be cheaper. I've read of a lot of people sticking to standard large staggered wheels with winter tires and raving about the difference.

I think the BMW recommended winter wheel spec should be stated in the owners manual.

I've personally gone for a square 17 inch setup for my e86, and am looking for 225 tyres.
