Winter Wheel and Tyre Set from BMW

I received BMW Magazine today. BMW now offers a complete winter wheel and tyre set from £660 (1 Series) to £1,460 (5 Series). The winter tyres provided are also RF. Is winter tyre cheaper than summer tyre (assuming same size, same brand, and both RF)? But if I'm going to fit a set of winter wheels and tyres on my Zed, they have to be 17".

Some BMW dealers even provide storage for your spare set of wheels.

Yeah I got the same thing through, quite an impressive offer really, depending on the tyre size I would just stick the 1 Series wheels on my Zed, however I've already bought some spare rims and my Vred Wintrac tyres are sat in the garage now waiting to be fitted. :D

looks like we are going to follow the german model whereby most people order a set of winter tyres and wheels when new and then store them in a dedicated depot.

I believe BMW UK realised they had to do something and are offering people good deals ... my local land rover dealer saw 3-4 months of bumper sales last winter-spring; all those people buting 30-50k cars must have been part exing something in and quite often it was premium german rwd.

In most cases a set of winter tyres might have sufficed.

Still don't understand why BMW don't offer 3's and 5's in Xdrive in the UK as they do in europe.

I'm not sure what to do, if we have another winter like we did last time I need to seriously consider my options. Just need to consider storage space of spare wheels/tyres. What's the best way of storing spare wheels tyres? Do you just put them on their side?

as I mentioned on some other post as well,I asked a dealer about the offer and this is their reply (E85):

"The offer is discount off the set, free fitting and we will take your wheels home for you, (30miles limit)

The only ones available for the z4 at the mo are style 104 with Goodyear GW3 runflat tyres and the price will be £1215 inc Vat for four "

Ouch.

Using ebay and mytyres I now have style 104s fitted with Nokian WRG2 tyres for the total of £405 waiting in the garage.

Should get a bit cheaper still as I'm ebaying two of the RE050s from the 104s so total cost to me will be around £350.

If I do get a winter set, I will only go for E89 17" Star-spoke style 290 (standard for 23i/30i) with winter RF tyres. I still think a whole set will be over £1k.

Or is it cheaper to use existing wheels, i.e. pay for tyre fitting and balancing twice a year?
