Winter tyres

I'm taking my E85 on a ski trip in December. What tyres would you guys recommend? I've looked at snow socks but will tyres suffice. I need to fit a new set soon anyway so want to make them count! :D

I used the Continental TS850P which are available in E85 sizes , as pure winter tyres some if the very best..

I'm running Nokian WR4s on our F11 tourer (19s) , Yeti (17s) & Si coupe (19s) , i'm more than impressed with their all year round capabilities hence why i've fitted them to all 3 of our vehicles .
Maybe not the cheapest but i find them quiet at all speeds , grippy on warm dry roads from the off & utterly faultless in the wet whether country roads or the fast lane .

you running them all year round Andy?

+1 for Michelin Cross Climates, I've had them on two cars, they give 90% of a full Mud and Snow winter tyres performance in ice and snow but are way better when it's not actually freezing/snowing. On the odd occasion I've actually driven them in snow I've been amazed how good they were, check out the deep snow clips on youtube and you will see that they give nothing away to a M&S winter tyre but can be left on the car without shredding when things thaw. They work well as a summer tyre on a daily driver but you would notice the softer compound on a Z4 in the summer. Wear has been surprising good, but it is a Michelin and not cheap so it's to be expected I guess.

I suppose it depends whether you are considering a second set of wheels and have them as a specific winter set up or want something that can be used all year round (but can do snow).

If the latter, as has been mentioned, CrossClimates definitely worth a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO0zyQh2l3M&t=39s

In warmer weather they are a bit softer, lacking sharpness on turning in etc but definitely a lot better than a proper winter tyre. This is a tyre I'd be happy to run all year round, had a set on my old E36 328 Touring.

Proper winter tyres aren't great to drive on in the summer. They get super soft, wear a lot and just generally aren't that happy. Had a set of Hankook i*Cept on the aforementioned E36.

I put a set of Bridgestone Weather Control A005 on the 330D in October last year before a late October trip to the Ring (for spectating, not driving, but weather can be changeable in the Eifel region at the best of times), but I would have put the CrossClimate+ on had Costco had them in the correct size at the time.

They've done high speed cruising abroad, a few month's driving Liverpool to London in all weathers, and not given me any cause for concern. Just a bit of vagueness in turn-on compared to other tyres.

They're not a bad tyre, just not as good in the dry as the CrossClimate+ (the plus is important) - but are possibly slightly better in the wet.

Due to CV19, they're still on the car.

Mine were £300 for set.

Yes mate i specifically wanted a tyre that performed well every month of the year whether backroads , by-pass or mway .
The Z will do around 1500m yr , the tourer around 5k , the Yeti i have already done 8k on the WRA4s since fitting in January with a lot of those covered on the M6 (200 miles a day) through May & June when temps were regularly high 20s , the tyres performed exactly as they did at 3-4 deg through Jan - Feb & The way they cope with water is exceptional on all 3 vehicles , total confidence at 75mph into standing water which living in the north is likely a lot of the year
You can see wear rate is good too, 8k & still almost 7mm on the fwd front tyres.
They also feel really good on the coupe 19s. Had a good thrash through the Dales last weekend at various speeds & conditions :driving: flawless
