Winter tyre recommendations - FITTED

Looking good black on black
Although think i would have gone with 50 profile :? guessing they're on 45 ?

Yep 45. Just stayed with manufacturer spec. Massivly impressed with the improvement in ride comfort over the 18" run flats. I might be tempted to go with a larger profile on 18s if I mod my motor next year. So what do you think about pressures? Thanks again for the wheels!

225 45 17s i would try around 32/33 Psi
If you find it too hard or if the snow lands & sticks then drop to 30psi

Cheers Andy. I'll adjust them in the morning, and go for a drive to scrub them in!

Why drop the pressure ?

Vredestein ( i think it was them) say don't, as it allows the contact area to deform !
I've alway run standard pressures on winter rubber. It's the material and the sipes that do the work.

I wasnt meaning him to deflate drastically , just lower to 30 if he was on 32/33 as it should help on frost or snow :?

The tyre pressures given for the car will also be for run flats, which obviously have a much stiffer sidewall, when I fitted winters I found I got better feel with 2-3 psi more than specified for run flats, it was like running with tyres made of jelly at the same pressures

Do you recall that top gear special with them driving to the North Pole, they lowered pressures to increase the contact patch and thus reduce sinking in very deep snow.

I've always used the tyre manufacturers pressures. Vredestein for instance, generally seem to be higher than the car manufacturers tyre pressures.

They will have tested their tyres on different makes of cars and come up with a correction factor based on the results of their tests, and are a good place to start.
