Winter tires and 108s

I'm not a great believer in the winter tyre thing. Last year the temp barely got below 5c for me and we had no snow/ice to speak of. I get that they are not just for snow and ice and they help at temps below 8 yadayadayada ...

But I could be a bit gungho last year as I didn't need the car 100% push came to shove and I could have walked and used to go with the mrs in her shitty little death trap 106...

Anyway I've now got a spare set of 108s and a garage so was thinking it might be a prudent idea to chuck on a set if winters just in case it gets crappy? So where is a good place to get a cheap set? Do I have to use 255 on the rears as there seems more choice at different sizes?

I have a pair of Conti Winter contact 265 40 18 measuring from 4mm if interested Dom ? £100 for the pair delivered

maybe .... given the amount of water on the roads today i was thinking of a boat. but as i spent most of my journey at 15mph im not sure a lack of grip is really an issue! wanna swap for a pair of 255 falken 453 with decent tread?

its just something im toying with at the mo to put on that spare set of wheels i have. thought that given they are a bit flakey a set of winters might be a good idea to protect the ones i got from you earlier this year and just a bit prudent with bad weather. (alhtough im a bit sceptical for need for them on gritted roads)

i need the car much more this year than last.
