Seeing as its my first year owning a Zed and winter will soon be on its way :( i was wondering what all my fellow "rag" toppers did with their cars during this time?? Do you store it away for next spring? Continue to use it?? Leave it in the garage and practice a bit of detailing? Is it on the drive and covered up?? Lets have some feedback on this cos it seems like the world is gonna come to an end October!! ish.
 
I have driven mine the last 2 winter, through rain and snow!

Never had winter tyres but i think this year i'll invest in some.

im going to drive mine... i have to its my only car! dunno about the winter tyres tho. there wasnt much call for them last winter around here

I drive mine all year, had winter boots on last year and will be sticking them on again this year. Winter doesn't mean snow and ice - just temperature consistently below 7 degrees justifies winter boots as ordinary tyres start to scrub below this temperature. The rubber compound doesn't get warm enough - read somewhere that 70% of tyre wear happens during winter months because of this. Winter tyres are designed to work best below 7 degrees ; above this temp they start to scrub because they get too soft. They really do make a difference if you drive the car a lot :thumbsup:
 
I only do between 30 and 40 miles a week (i live very close to work and town and if i go on longer journeys with work they give me a car to use to save on wear and tear of the zed. Hardly seems worth fitting winter tyres right?

I watched this debate last year as a newbie, nice to have the experience to participate this time...

BSEZ4 - would seem impractical to get winter tyres for such low mileage. I can do anything from as little as 100 miles to over 700 in a week, irrespective of time of year, so it makes sense for me.

I have 'daisy' wheels (103s I think) that I got cheap off a forum member, and Avon Ice Touring tyres. The wheels are not the prettiest / best and will need a refurb after this winter, but if I slide and kerb them then it won't matter. The tyres wore really well, got me all the way to and from Scotland over the weekend at the beginning of Feb when the world ended :roll: , and have plenty of tread left on them. As the recommended winter wheel set up is 225/45/17 all round, and the tyres are not directional, I will stick the ones that were other rear on the front this year to even out wear. If I'm really, really lucky I will get a third winter out of them I think.

For anyone debating this there are loads of threads on here about the subject, and PawnSacrifice pulled all the info into one thread last October IIRC.
 
I bought a spare set of rims and will be fitting winter rubber this year. Have done the same with my wife's car and it's a really good way of ensuring you get about safely in the winter. They go on in November and off again at the end of March.I have a hardtop that get's fitted at the same time. :thumbsup:
 
Ah fair play, didnt think it made too much sense. I have 103's as standard on mine but do want to upgrade to 18" either 108s or something else when my tyres are dead. This would then leave me with some unused wheels which i could stick some winter rubber on if it looks like more mileage is possible. Having said that im currently looking at the possibility of moving to Oz, taking my Zed with me. In that case its unlikely id ever need winter tyres! I hope.
 
Drive it, like others. Roof down unless its raining or the roof has ice on (and then i max the heater for a few miles before dropping it)
 
Drive if all year in all weathers. Only difference is I fit the hardtop from November to March, depending on weather.
 
Drive it all year round and parked outside on driveway. Same as others in here as long as it is not wet roof comes down :driving:
