Winter Merlot - 103 Daisy Wheels

Hopefully picking up a nice little winter Merlot next week to tinker with.
Its got 16" wheels on which might be good for winter boots but it feels like it needs something a little bigger.

Daisys seem to suit the Merlot well so wondered if anyone had a set floating about?
Presentable condition is all I need. With a budget of £200 I dont want to be looking for anything needing immediate refurb.

Any alternatives or suggestions also welcome. :) :driving:

I saw that and thought it’s an interesting looking car

Colour really reminds me of the older E30 burgunrot

Well done! Never seen a hardtop in that colour either!

I thought of you Bigwinn.. we seem to be treading similar paths sharing a hobby of restoring Z's!
I don't think we're a milion miles apart either.
The engine seemed sound on first look but cant wait to get it on the ramp. I've never dug into the Vanos before so might pick your brains as I saw you did one recently.

Seen a set of 400M's locally off a 4 series. They have an offset of ET37 so I think it would push the wheels out by 22mm. I'm tempted.

I'm on a similar path too. :D
If it helps, the 2.2i I am tinkering with has 18" AC Schnitzer alloys on it.
All four are 8.5 wide with ET38. (Fronts have 225/40 and rear have 255/35)
This is how they look, so I think your ET37 will be fine, depending on rim widths?

Ahh nice one. Good to know who to give a nudge when stuck.

Those 400's have 225/45's on the front. 8" wide.
Another thread on the forum suggests they wont fit which surprises me looking at the gap on yours. Maybe that user had it lowered? Hopefully @MrTidy will be along shortly to educate me :)

Where you based Street? You are always welcome for advice or to pop round!!

Was supposed to be at torksey today doing mark plants vanos for him but catching covid put paid to that.

Was going to fly through sorting the vanos on my silver one today but the fatigue is an absolute pig. Just done the seals and bearings now I’m going to have a sit down!!

I’ve got a ‘go to’ list of stuff that I check and replace which I can send over which covers all the usual old and busted parts to replace.

And those 400m’s look cracking think they would set the colour off well!

After a quick profile check I think I’m talking rubbish. I’m up North in a place called Jarrow (near Newcastle).
Including @enuff_zed we’ve got the East cost covered 🤣

I’ve taken a punt on those 400’s. They are in good enough condition to sell on if they don’t fit. I’ll post some before and afters 👍🏻

no worries bud

Still happy to help with any tips etc re vanos!

All the best and look forward to pics of those wheels on?!

Your latest project looks fantastic in Merlot with the hardtop.

Sorry I was a bit late for your question though.

I had E89 wheels on my previous Coupe that was on standard Sport suspension.

Front wheels were 8Jx18 ET29 with 225/40 tyres and rears were 8.5Jx18 ET40 with 255/35 tyres and I didn't have any rubbing with them.

So your fronts with ET37 would sit 8mm further in than what I had so wouldn't be a problem. It would be the same as using 108s with a 10mm spacer.

But I'm not sure about the rears because from what I can make out 400Ms are staggered with 8.5J rears. :?

Edited to correct typo in wheel style.

But the AC Schnitzers I have are 8.5x18 ET38 all round and sit nicely front and rear, as per the pics above, so I'd hope they would be ok.
Accepting though that my 2.2i has standard suspension.

Whacked the 400's onto the car this evening just to satisfy my curiosity.
Photos aren't great but it went up with 16"s and came down with 18"s.
A quick spin later they fit perfectly. No rubbing even though I realised one of the fronts has the wrong tyre (255 not 225).

Plenty to crack on with starting with bearings so they'll be off again shortly and they'll get a good clean up.
Cheers for the help guys.

Those Style 400s look great.

It's good to have something different - but now I've got lift envy.
