Winter Jobs

preventative maintenance

Would rather do it over a winter than it go in the summer, looking at a single mass flywheel, change the rear crank oil seal, clutch release bearing and anything in the area while it is in bits. It normally only costs me the cost of the parts as I do the work myself.
Sounds great, how many miles have you got on the clutch?

Sounds epic! We expect pictures every step of the way!!

Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time Red....now I’ve got a ramp and blasting equipment so it’s time to go for it.
Top man  what ramp have you got? I'd love that setup, my garage has rafters (or whatever they are called) at about 8ft so I could do a scissor lift... Man maths, saves money

The ramp is in a rented workshop Red, half is for the new vapour and soda blasting business, half for my playtime man cave...

The car has 90,000 on the clock

As with all cars you don’t know the type of use it has had before, but when I bought it I could only look at the body work, the engine and the interior as a ramp was not offered and it is not the normal thing.

Last winter I did loads of work, my list is close to the list above but not the fuel tank or the heat shields (that did not have to come off) I repaired my heat shields with carbon kevlar where they had rotted at the fixing due to the eye watering cost of them.

This winter I have removed the rear bumper and had the steel bumper powder coated

So back to the clutch it is purely preventative as I would like to choose when I do it but my house in Cleethorpes is for sale (where my garage is) so don’t want to sell the house and have to rush finishing the job as realistically have a max of 10 hours on a Saturday most weekends to work on it.

So this year it is small bite size jobs

Just did the cornerweight before going off the road in November, winter plans are:

# repaint fang protectors, fresh layer matt black
# investigate need for front spacers OEM rims / KWV3.
# renew driver seat bolsters
# renew driver inner doorpanel (small mark)
# fix fuel lid solenoid
# clean idle valve & AFM

If wallet permits:
# VANOS rebulid
# valve clearance adjustment

Yep I’m a concours saddo fan Beanie, always have been.....it’s weird I know and only us with the illness understand....

I will either be doing a likely weekly update as it progresses or a thread once it’s done but most likely a weekly update for the very few that might be interested.

As for an air box I’m thinking not tbh, I had a Gruppe M and preferred just the Remus back boxes on their own, just my preference.

There’s definitely something to be said for having a car that’s as good as/better than new. The only downside is that you might never want to use it again!

I’m a sucker for an airbox but if you weren’t fussed by the gruppe M then there’s no point in wasting a fairly hefty sum on one. That 2k+ will go a long way with the restoration.

Looking forward to seeing the progress

Love it! I may have to come and get my sub frames done at some point so I can get them powder coated after 8)

I’ve got a Triton challenger 2 dry blast cabinet arriving along with its equivalent wet blast cabinet arriving this week Red...I can get parts powder coated by a local firm as well. I’ll have a bush press also to fit new bushes so it’s just a matter of installation for the customer.

I’m sure you’ve got room for a small powder coating booth & oven as well in that garage John, interested in seeing your progress

I have room Rob but until I’m up and running I don’t know how much demand there will be for powder coating, I’ll give it 6 months then evaluate. If I’m farming enough out then yes I’ll build a booth.

I’m sure the amount of kerbed wheels on this forum alone would keep you busy

Yeah, once you have coilovers you can do it.
Obviously with yourself in the driver seat.

(Like getting that table to not wobble but stand on all 4 legs. :) )
