Winter Jobs

So what winter jobs do you have planned on your M's?

I've got handbrake adjustment and oil change on the list so far...machine polish borderline at the minute, may wait until warmer weather for that one!

I'd say the soundproofing one is a good job, since most of the work takes place indoors (fitting the deadening material to the door panels).

To be honest there isn't really anything the Z needs at the moment, which is a welcome change from October when it needed an oil change, new callipers pads and rotors on the front, and a set of new tyres at the rear. All that having just paid for insurance for the year!

Was going to change the clutch and flywheel as preventative maintenance but as I am selling my house that can wait until I have moved
I will check the valve clearances and change the rocker cover gasket along with an oil and filter change

The only thing i'd like to do to mine is refurb the steering wheel, everything else is done or has recently been done.

Just did the cornerweight before going off the road in November, winter plans are:

# repaint fang protectors, fresh layer matt black
# investigate need for front spacers OEM rims / KWV3.
# renew driver seat bolsters
# renew driver inner doorpanel (small mark)
# fix fuel lid solenoid
# clean idle valve & AFM

If wallet permits:
# VANOS rebulid
# valve clearance adjustment

No particular winter plans for me other than waiting for dry, sunny days to go for a drive.

I'll need to tax mine on 31 December, then when I've got some cash to spare I've got a set off 224 that need a refurb abd some new tyres.

Then I need to buy some new shock absorbers and get them fitted along with the H & R springs I've already got and a full alignment.

Thinking of Bilstein B6s, but would welcome any other suggestions. I'm aiming for decent ride more than ability on track!

That's some serious preventative maintenance

Good idea on the valve clearances, could start that soon as its not moving anywhere for a while...

I'd guess that it will ride fairly harsh with the Bilsteins and H&Rs although I've no experience of them...someone on here will have tried that setup though

Would rather do it over a winter than it go in the summer, looking at a single mass flywheel, change the rear crank oil seal, clutch release bearing and anything in the area while it is in bits. It normally only costs me the cost of the parts as I do the work myself.

You've set yourself a bit of a challenge there matey

Free set of pics for the coming Vapour blasting website Nige, plus I want to do it....never had the space or ramp to do one before.

Sound great, John. Make sure you get lots of pics of the before, during and after for all us saddos that love that kind of thing :D

Given the lengths you’re going to, do you not fancy a nice csl style airbox to finish it all off?

Yep I’m a concours saddo fan Beanie, always have been.....it’s weird I know and only us with the illness understand....

I will either be doing a likely weekly update as it progresses or a thread once it’s done but most likely a weekly update for the very few that might be interested.

As for an air box I’m thinking not tbh, I had a Gruppe M and preferred just the Remus back boxes on their own, just my preference.

Top man  what ramp have you got? I'd love that setup, my garage has rafters (or whatever they are called) at about 8ft so I could do a scissor lift... Man maths, saves money
