Wingmirror glass flew off on motorway

Has this happened to anyone?

The glass part of my wingmirror flew off on the mway last night:

Iv'e ordered a new mirror insert but not sure how to fit it, can anyone advise as I'd like to replace it myself to keep costs down?

Thanks

Happened to me 2 weeks ago.

Replacement glass is £100 from the main dealer.

I bought one off eBay for £10 and glued it on. It's ok but no where near as good as OEM.

Check to see if the other side is loose and glue it before it does the same

Same happened to me yesterday :(
Parked up and shut door - thought 'that sounded odd!'

So opened and shut door again
Glass fell out (in slow motion tried to catch it :D)
Luckily no damage to the door and getting my fingers to it slowed it up a bit and it only cracked a small corner off as it hit the road

Looked at threads on here and ordered a replacement off Amazon for £10.
Stuck the old one back in with sticky pads for the time being

Thanks guys for the advice and the links - I'm going to cancel the part from the dealer and buy a glass insert and glue it on - worth a try :)

A non genuine replacement is worth a try at the price, I bought a replacement glass last year when this happened to me and for £8 looks and works great :D

I used Silicon Sealant as an adhesive on my E85. Was still good 3 years later when I sold it.

lol at our cars!

it would royally piss me off if this fell off then clattered across the bodywork at 70mph... i could guess it could cause some decent damage which would be just my luck.

Luckly it bounced off the window and grazed the door leaving a few small marks on the bodywork. I managed to t-cut the scratches out and polish them up, left it virtually perfect :)

Thanks for the tip, the mirror I've ordered says it comes with an adhesiive backing - I guess that should work, although I may use silicon sealant too (belt and braces)
