Wing mirrors kicked off by idiots

Hello!
Some total prat has come along and kicked both my mirrors off!
I'm absolutely fuming but as the excess on my insurance is pretty high (I'm a poor student) this needs fixing myself

The glass in both mirrors is fine, the hinge has just been snapped

I have found spares from a wreckers from about £130 each but even at that price I'd really struggle to afford it

I was hoping there was some way of fixing this easily as it must be a semi regular problem

Thank you so much,

James

There a some total Dic# wipes in the world. Take the £130 hit. That seems a decent price to me. You could try glueing it, if someone knows a suitable one, but would likely not be strong enough. :(

What a scumbag - I hope they fell over and it hurt!

Sorry I can't help with repair suggestions - as buzy says I think the used ones may be your best option.

Gutted for you - £130 each is not a bad price but still not a cheap fix
Cheapest on Ebay £150
May be worth a try glueing especially if the idiots are 'local' and do it again the next time they walk past
Some sort of epoxy probably best but there's not much surface area to play with to take the weight/wind resistance

Good luck

Twats, use some gear called "Hippo" or "sticks like s**t" you'l need a mastic gun and some duct tape to support the mirrors while its setting though, it's flexible and temperatures don't effect it either and the Hippo comes in black, you'l find it in a builders merchants

Cheers lads,
Going to try taking them to bits tomorrow to see if I have any chance of gluing
-Can't hurt to try

May also fill them with concrete and wait for the next tw*t to try giving it a boot!

Really sorry that this happened - sub-human scum. :x

Careful with gluing though, just in case the epoxy doesn’t take and the mirror flies off at speed and hits someone’s baby or smashes some priceless artwork. Maybe see if you can loosely tie-wrap between the inside and the mount as a tether.

That totally sucks

They won’t fly off as there’s a tether built into the construction

I managed to get a pair of power folding mirrors off eBay for £240 about 6 months ago, so there are bargains out there occasionally.... although I’d imagine you want this solved sooner rather than later

I hate to be a downer, but what’s to stop the idiots doing the same (or worse) after you fix them? Can you park your car somewhere else?

James where are you based?

It can be repaired with Qbond.

The unit needs stripping down but it’s not hard if you know how. I can do it for you if you’re anywhere near Sheffield.

You won’t be able to tell

If your going to use a glue look at 3m PLEXUS MA300 if you use this it def won't come apart with out a chisel and is not effected buy heat.
You can get it on ebay about £10. you should use a gun and mixing nozzles which will prob be another £30. Or just push equal measures out of the tube and mix. it sets in 20 mins. Used in aviation and marine industries.
Believe me once its stuck it won't break.

Hopefully it was a spur of the moment thing, wrong place wrong time. I bet next time they walk past they’ll have something ‘better’ to do.

There’s certainly no shortage of twats around. Have you considered a Camera aimed at the car if it’s close to the house OP? I’d recommend the Nest camera, and most of their other stuff to be fair.

Good shout! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332725659996 is even cheaper
