Wing mirror glass

Hi all. Cleaning the car. Shut the passenger door and the glass from the wing mirror fell on the floor. It didn't break but there's a small chip in the corner. Can you buy this separately? Could probably stick it back on with some adhesive but Ill always be looking at that chip.
 
10 quid mirror from eBay. Quality is OK. Good for a tenner. It has a different back compared to the OEM mirror which was a twist on to fit. This eBay one is a push fit. Feels sturdy though.
It's a slightly different tint compared to the other mirror but considering it cost a tenner and 5 minutes to fit I'm happy.

I just fitted a mirror glass today also, original fell out while driving during the Easter weekend :roll:

I purchased just the actual 'glass' (via Ebay) which stuck to the original OEM backing, as I noticed the eBay full replacements are the push fit type (Like yours) rather than the twist locking OEM method. I have previously had a bad experience with the push type with a previous BMW (E46) that's why I choose the glass only.

Pleased to see yours is fitted firmly without any issues though, great result :)

Original BMW ones are not worth the extra ££ IMO.
 
I would've done it that way too Dale but the plastic/ rubber surface behind the glass was cracked and crumbling in some areas. Too many heat and cold cycles I'm guessing.

Did I see on here that genuine BMW ones are £120 ish or did I dream it? if true that is a genuinely ridiculous amount.

Correct, people have been quoted around that figure from the stealers (From my knowledge)... I got stung in the region of £93 for an E46.

Smacks of pure greed on BMW's part, I wouldn't mind paying double or maybe triple eBay type prices for genuine OEM, but seriously, 12 times the price!!!
 
my back pad was ok but mirror is different tint. Not a perfect fit but not bad for a £10. On the rear or your new mirror it comes with a back pad attached??

How did you get the original pad off?
 
I've got the dimable ones and the driver's side has failed (passenger and internal ones still going strong after nearly 10 years). I've been quoted £240 (+VAT and fitting???). Anyone know of alternative suppliers (dimable, not plain glass).

If so, you need a thin screw driver, put it in that notch (circled in the photo) and turn it.
Adjust your mirror so it's facing as far inwards and downwards as possible. This gives you more access to that notch.
