Managed to save the glass before it fell out today.

Has anyone stuck the glass back in?

What did you use?

I thought it might be a case of a new backing plate that I assumed would come with adhesive, but BMW tell me that its £96 as you have to buy the glass along with the rest of the internals.

Having heated mirrors I didnt want to affect the effectivness of the heating element by using an unsuitable adhesive.

Many thanks

Halfords green sticky pads. Heat ehm up before sticking them on. worked for my passenger side. I wasnt so lucky on the drivers side, i blew it across the drive with the Karcher and had to buy a new one. Good Luck

Thanks guys

Will have to have a go with one of the suggested methods over the weekend.

The other side fell off 6 months ago but the glass smashed. The replacement glass I purchased from eBay and that came with double sided tape. I notice in the cold that that side always took longer in the cold to defrost. Was hoping that whatever way i go this time it doesn't have same effect.

Cheers

I used contact adhesive and still holding strong...

others have suggested mirror adhesive as a better solution.

Hi,

Just to let you know that the following sticky pads will do fine:

*Cure your shaky mirror*!!

Just for reference - If your mirror is shaking/vibrating then that mean it wants to fall off one day!

What I did with mines is just rip it (The mirror Glass only) off the backing - Came off easily as obviously there's not much adhesive holding it on.

I then used Double sticky sided, waterproof and high temp resistant foam pads. They are about 3mm thick, black in colour and about 15mm squared. I used about 8 to 10 around the edges and center. Job done, no messing about with glue. It's stuck on solid now. I'll keep an eye on it but it doesn't look like it'll fall off any time soon.
Available from Halfrauds.

Glass is still stuck on strong.
Car has been through storms, snow and sleet. Recently the mirror has been covered in ice too!
