Wing mirror glass

Greetings, I'm new here so please be kind!
So I woke up this morining to find my wing mirror on the floor by my car nowhere near where it's meant to be.
I've been looking on the forum trying to do a bit of homework on where to get a new one and how to fit it, spoke to BMW and couldn't belive my ears when they said it one would set me back £104!! For a piece of glass, anyway, found this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-Z4-Z-4-E8...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item56399fe5ec

Not the best description on what to get but it's a hell of alot cheaper. Anybody got any other suggestions?
The backplate is still attached and there are no wires coming out of the casing, is it just a case of sticking a new one onto the backplate? I've got heated mirrors, will this affect it?

Any help will be appreciated!

Check you can contact them by phone and they have an address of were they are, simple rules never buy if you can't confirm they exist

Hi and welcome- below a link to the 'how to' for mirror replacement. The mirror has an element in it hence the cost!

Hi, welcome!

If you still have the blackplate then you should be fine with those. I noticed with mine that both were flapping about a lot as the adhesive wore off, luckily I caught them in time. I took the mirror glass off, cleaned it up and stuck back on with 3M double sided tape (the spongy stuff). There was no connection between the glass and the backing plate on mine. Have done this with both now... both are still on there and the heating works perfectly. If you have auto tinting you may need something special.

Hope that helps.

Excellent, thanks for your advice.
They have a wide angled section (apshepric???) for blind spots. Do these come as standard to all Z4's?

Been looking on the forum and there's some really useful stuff, cheers guys.

I had a look on RealOEM before for someone else and I'm not sure that it is standard. But you'll be able to see by looking at your other mirror or even the base plate.

You may want to have a search for the other member that had the same problem and drop him a PM to see what he did.

Will do.
Thanks again for your help.

well my drivers side mirror decided it didn't like being attached to the car yesterday :(

Dealer quoted the price above of £104 :o

I've just bought the one at the top of the page (albeit a new auction etc) for a heated mirror and backing plate for £20 delivered... I'll update when I've received it as to whether it works etc

But I would urge everyone to go check that their mirrors are secure as I hadn't noticed any looseness :|

wing mirror glass if any one saves their glass stick it back with contact adhsive this works well as the adhisive allows the mirror to heat up its a good conductor of electricty ive done this twice two years ago they still on and still heat up

Glad to hear you say that cos I just fitted the one I bought yesterday.... the heated pad was stuck on the wrong way around so the contacts wouldn't reach :(

so reused the existing heating element and stuck it with Contact adhesive and all seems fine :D

While I was doing it I checked the passenger side mirror and it came off in my hands :o so stuck that one back on too

Didn't quite know what to stick them on with, but it seems to have worked, and the heating works great too :D

so all in all alot cheaper than the stealer solution

My wing mirror broke the other day, I went on this site and they've got some really amazing wing mirrors and they were pretty cheap.
I went on this and then clicked through to the other site

Have a look, the ones I got from there last year have been great

Hmm, I can smell canned meat (spam)

Dont forget they do the normal or blue tinted mirrors as well, plus normal or wide angle. Personally i got ebay ones and they were poop, so i got 1 series versions, as the 1 series and m3 plus the z4 are all the same, well 1 series and m3 ones are, and the z4's look identical.

I will be getting blue tinted ones soon, as they look much better imo
