So, had a knock on the door this afternoon and it was my next door neighbour with a piece of Z4 mirror glass in his hand. Looks like it has just fallen out due to the heat.
Doesn’t look like there’s any damage but does anyone have any pointers on how to re-attach without me ruining it? Will I need to get the adhesive replaced?
I assume the plastic backing plate is still in the mirror housing?
If so, clean all the residue off both sides and get some 3M VHB foam tape to reaffix it (it's strong enough to hold my carbon wing on at 170mph, so I assume it will be fine for this...especially as it will be new rather than over 10 years old.

Although looking at the heating element in your's, it seems different to the OEM version...not that it matters in your situation...other than to point out that it's probably fallen off in the past and been replaced with a much better value non-BMW one
Pretty much sorted. The first time, I put the plastic on the glass in the entirely wrong place and it wasn’t perfect the second time. But, at least I can drive the car again. I’ll probably take the passenger side one off at some point and redo the drivers side accordingly. Bit of a pain getting the 3M tape off though that’s probably a good thing
