Wing mirror glass replacement - HELP

So my passenger side wing mirror glass fell off the backing plate - common enough issue. I have a replacement which includes the twisty bezel, but I’m struggling to get the old one off.

NewTis says to “Slide bore of bayonet lock (3) with a suitable tool to left until bayonet lock (3) is fully unlocked.” I can only get the lock to move about 5mm and the backing plate is still firmly attached.

I’m sure lots of members have encountered this. Any tips before I use a more destructive method?

Can't help I'm afraid, as the ones I've done have worked fine.
Doesn't move much more than that though if I recall?
Has it been glued too?

I took one of mine off ...at the top centre of the mirror there is a tab ...not easy to see but I managed to get a small allen key in there and move it

The tab at top centre is the lock. I can move it, but it doesn’t seem to loosen the mirror at all. Should it just fall out?
[ref]enuff_zed[/ref], no idea if it’s been glued. Looks like unfiddled OEM to me.
