Wing mirror glass fell out

on my drive out not to long ago my wing mirror glass decided it didn't want to be part of my car anymore and jumped ship at speed, thought i hit a bird to be honest. I don't know wether to replace just the glass or glass and backing just for good measure, it left a nice little goodbye on my passenger side hip:FBE68669-61CA-47C6-A63B-B6A667309302_zpsgjjrcel9.jpg
 
Mine came loose, lucky i noticed whilst driving, the mirror seemed to be flickering. took it off and superglued back in.been fine since

What did you get as a replacement, are the ebay ones ok? Even with a clip on back as opposed to the screw type as standard, i should be able to buff that out as well
 
Oem bmw ones have a sliding circular ring on the rear to lock on the motor...

You can stick a replacement aftermarket one onto the OEM backing but i couldnt find a decent one with a blindspot line.

I fitted and aftermarket heated replacement that mounts onto the mirror motor... Looks great and has no chance of falling off again.
 
Can't be many of us not caught out with this one :oops: week 1 of my Zcoupe it was twitching like a rabbits nose & all i had with us was some gum mrs w was chewing :P worked until i got home & pink gripped it back in .
Other side is usually not far behind , a novice idea to have them constantly heated :thumbsdown:
 
Z4M-2006 you got a link of what you got? Will also take Mr wilks advice and just do both for good measure.
 
Didn't it affect a certain type of glass only? Can't remember the exact detail, but I thought the chromatic mirrors did not have this issue.
 
Not sure.

But it happened on my last coupe too but it just fell onto the grass when it was parked..

Knowing this car it probably was the one that falls out
 
I seem to remember that the chromatic mirrors are thicker and have a different mounting method.

Does your car have the chromatic mirrors ?

Never known one to fall out. They have a bezel round them so presume this helps to keep them in place.

The cost of "flimpering" then :D

I think it only cost me something a couple of hundred for the folding / chromatic mirrors on my Zeds when I ordered them. No idea again why you would not order them with the car.
 
This happened to me on Friday funnily enough. Went round a roundabout and heard something clonk.

Didn't realise what it was until I glanced in my wing mirror and noticed it looked very foggy. Then realised it was because there was no longer any glass in it! :oops:
 
Same thing happened to mine - stuck it back in with Unibond Repair Extreme as per this thread...

Cheers for that good reading on that thread, only ordered just the glass for now, i will order both sides with the element on the back

I got this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290804756388 doesn't use the BMW ring-clip fixing. Just remove original and apply gentle force to clip-on to motor disc. The vertical line is purely cosmetic, but the mirror is convex so has similar effect. Saves nearly 90 quid..... is there a problem?? LOL
