Wing mirror broken by vandal

Hi All,

Need your advice on wing mirrors to try and get mine fixed. It appears over the weekend someone has come along and snapped off or walked into an snapped off my wing mirror (I had it park on the kerb at the in laws house). It appears that the metal bit it is clipped onto has been completely snapped. I am not sure if i could get it welded back on or not or if i can just buy the metal part etc. Also i am not sure how to disconnect and take off the wing mirror so i dont have it dangling off the side of the car.

I can post a pic but not sure how to do this either.

So any advice, diagrams, pictures or what ever you can get so i can get the mirror off and identify the broken part and fix or buy a new one would be great thanks.

Nice finish to the weekend :(

Got the mirror off.

Prob will need a new one.

How can I tell if I have a. Heated one or not?

Also now discovered a big bent below the mirror where it had obviously been forced off and smacked against the door.

Anyone got dents like that taken out by those dent people?

Yep, you can get to those dents from behind so just find a decent dent chap. Door card will have to come off, but that's easy enough.

Yeah hoping that u could get then out from paintless dent removal. Any one know roughly a price?

Also what do I need to look out for when getting a replacement Wing
Mirror. Are all the BMW z4 mirrors heated and electronic adjust? The only
Other type is electic folding on top of that. Is that correct?

Thanks

Paul

Door card removal.

I did take parts of it off to disconnect the mirror. But not sure if I got all the screws. I saw two
Behind the door handle and then piped out the bits behind the panel. Am I missing another screw. Did I read right that there is one behind the airbag badge. I didn't want to
Mess around incase the air
Bag went off. Is there actually an air bag In there? And
Do I need to be careful when takin the door car off?

this happened to me too.

IIRC it is about 180GBP for a new wing mirror. this is standard heated. this is with a primed shell.

So hopefully the shell is OK and you can swap.

It isnt too hard to fit.

take the tweeter off, unbolt old, feed wiring looming through on new one, bolt new one back on.

New one doesnt have threads to take the bolts. so it is a good idea to wind the bolts in once before fitting. remove, offer up and then do the bolts.

youll need the door card off to push the connector in for the heating/motor

Is that 180 for a new one? Of second hand?

Os the tweeter the wee speaker?

So for the door card, take off the two screws under door handle. And there is a third yeah? Is that under the airbag sign?

Thanks

Door card shouldnt need to come off to get the dent out. I had one removed the other day fom my door, took the guy less than five minutes from start to finish.

Anyone know how I can upload a pic to this site?

Want your opinion on the dent.

I sent the pics to a few dent people and got word back from 3 saying prices between 40 up to 70 per panel. However fourth person quoted saying 130 as the dent is to sharp and needs filled in and painted. All of them saw the seem pictures? Do you think the last person is trying there luck? Don't want to take it to a dent guy for it to look worse or them attempt something that can't ve done.

The dent is a diagonal line below line mirror running down the door to the crease .

Let me know wha you think?

Also srhutch, how much roughly did your dent removal cost? Thanks

I have also got a broken mirror for the same reason; some vandalising *beep* *beep* *beeeeep* snapped it off in a drunken rage.
The metal is a diecast alluminium alloy and therefore is not strong and has a low melting point, however can be welded using an alu arc welder.
Contact your local metal/exhaust repair place and see if they can do it for you. Using any other kind of welding may melt the alloy and render it irrepairable.

Cheers

I will pass that onto my dad he has taken it into his work as he works for an aircraft manufacturer.

They might be able to do that.

Also meant to say did u get then mirror fixed that way? Was it strong enough? I think I saw somewhere on this post someone bought a car which had the mirror welded but it didn't last long.

Update

Got the wing mirror back on. My dad put a couple of brackets on the arm to reattached and then used some aircraft glue type stuff for added strength. You don't notice the difference. Tho I don't think it wud take to folding the mirrors in and out to often.

Also got the dent where they bashed into the door removed. Took the guy 2 hours to pull and push the dent out but he did a great Job. Said it was the most difficult he had done due to shape and place of it.

Onwards and upwards now.
