Wing mirror - base plate differences

So I have noticed that the wing mirrors on my //M have like a bright black / gloss base plate (the triangle bit which secures the wing mirror to the car). On other cars I have noticed that this part is just a Matt black plastic colour.

Anyone know which option caused this to be like this and what else this options brings?
It can't be simply //M specific as there are other ///Ms without the gloss black here....

Curious. Anyone?

I think its just down to the product used when detailing. Probably had one of those ceramic type used hence the long lasting gloss finish.

Mine have no product in to make em this shiney / they are a proper gloss. I doubt that would have been painted - Graham will be along to tell me something soon no doubt

Could this be something to do with the fact mine are electric folding?

Mine are the same. They look like they are shiny gloss black plastic or painted smooth plastic although the underneath of the mirrors is not painted.

Myabe it was done on cars where the colour was a cost option or something?

Curious indeed.....my paint is Midnight Blue which is individual....

On the M3 it's down to the exterior shadow line trim option, on the z4m I don't think this existed so probably included as a non standard paint option as said above.

No, AFAIK they are all part of the wing mirror assy. i might have a spare one for the drivers side, i can see if i can split it from the assy (i think i kept it after somone knocked my wing mirror off). yours for free if a: i have it b: it is the correct side. PM me.
