A few weeks ago I went to the dealer to have them check my intermitant wipers that weren't working. Indeed they were not working the tech said. I was told initially they had to order a replacement rain sensor. I was told they just had to remove the mirror to replace the sensor and I was glad to hear that. I got a call that my new windshield was in and I needed to schedule an appointment to have it installed. Evidently it's more than just removing the mirror.
I've read several people here had windshields replaced and weren't very happy. So, I'm not real happy about having it replaced either. I mentioned to the shop manager that I'd heard from people here that there were some problems with the replacements.
He assured me they haven't had any problems and the techs had been trained by BMW to do the replacement. I feel a little better knowing it will be a BMW factory replacement windshield and that BMW is doing the work. I was told they would need two days to complete the project correctly.
This is a warranty issue so it won't cost me. I'm not a big believer of all the "bells and whistles" this car has. Too much stuff I don't really need. I like intermitant wipers, but why do they feel the car has to decide for me? I was always content to just set the speed I wanted with other systems.
In 2003 I bought a new truck, and the first week I owned it a small rock hit the windshield. A few days later it had to be replaced and I'm glad to say it went smoothly and has never been a problem.
